hello!! recently, I’ve been feeling very self conscious about my body ever since the summer started (along with many other people) and stretch marks have been the biggest insecurity of mine over the past couple months and couldn’t help but wonder how tenna would react to seeing them on somebody. (Especially because he’s not very exposed to natural human body parts/functions) I imagine him to be a bit confused on why the reader is so insecure about it, reassuring them that there isn’t anything to be upset about and how beautiful they really are on you.

you try to explain, using all the words you've been taught to use against your own skin, stretch marks and imperfections, but there's something about Tenna that makes your shame feel a bit silly. of course he'd see them as stripes. of course he'd reach for the loveliest possible comparison without even thinking about it, because his frame of reference is nature and wonder and the things that children point at with delight. tigers have stripes. sunlight through blinds makes stripes. the rings of a tree, marking every year it survived, are stripes. and you, standing there nervous and bare, you have stripes too. isn't that marvellous, the idea of being looked at by someone who has no context for your insecurities and therefore renders them powerless?
it makes you wonder what else you've been wrong about. what other parts of yourself you've been taught to apologise for, when all along and despite everything, they were just you.

i'm sure he'd be the one to draw your attention away from the mirror when you've been staring too long. he would step between you and your reflection, blocking it with his frame, and tilt your chin up with one finger. so patient with you, he'd notice when you try to cover yourself, hands tugging at fabric and turning away from the light. he'd gently take your hands in his, thumbs stroking over your knuckles. “don't hide from me, please. i know it's hard and you're scared, but you're safe here. you're so safe. nothing bad is going to happen. it's just me. it's only ever me.”
even if you start to feel the sudden wave of self-hatred mid-way through, he'll stop. he'll take both of your hands in his and start humming some old familiar tune, swaying with you, gentle, back and forth, back and forth, until the feeling passes. you are simply the person he loves, standing in front of him, asking him to find you beautiful. as if that were ever in question
