Eddie Brock talking down Carnage symbiote’s mind-controlled host it’s piloting in Venom’s Absolute Carnage comic vs. Henry Creel under the Mind Flayer’s control in Stranger Things S5 finale

if you are a fan of ST’s Henry Creel and are interested in the dynamic between the two I’d highly recommend reading Venom comics. While they are not exactly the same, there are a lot of similarities and Venom’s potential influence in the whole concept of the Mind Flayer in Stranger Things is palpable - especially with Carnage.

I feel like it’s hard to be a fan of one of these without also being a fan of the other. They are different but so complimentary I will feast forever between Eddie Brock and his beloved symbiote and Henry Creel and his enemy-turned-partner-in-crime, the Mind Flayer. (Venom also gives some opportunity for a similar but healthier dynamic - even full-on queer interspecies romantic relationship - between an alien brain sharing parasite and its human host so that’s nice if that is something that interests you).

Bc of my long spiral into Venom comics/symbiotic madness I have to say that the Duffer Brothers were right to leave Henry as “we are one”

I know people don’t like to hear it but that really is the correct way to depict him imho at the end of such an experience

bc by that point Henry’s reliance on the Mind Flayer is PARAMOUNT. Truly, without it, he feels nothing.

I don’t like addiction metaphors as much as trauma and other stuff but it’s on my mind right now bc my fave is being explored in part as having developed an addiction to his symbiotic more powerful alien partners after spending years and years bonded to them. I think the same could be said about Vecna, that you could involve that metaphor there. It’s not my favorite take as I view the Mind Flayer and symbiotes as characters, which they are, but I suppose it still works. It’s like any fundamental point of a truly toxic relationship, it ends up a sort of addiction to what makes it bad as well as good.

In that way, there really is no better metaphor than it truly BEING a toxic relationship. At its core that’s what it is whether writers want to water it down or not, because oftentimes they do want to water it down bc they don’t like the implications of such a bond between the two, or something. The Duffers didn’t shy away from trying to hint at the audience another false storyline just to save you from the harsh or more uncomfortable truths. “We are one” was coming out in broad daylight with the complexity of it and not shying away from the reality that it has Implications. Most of which are dark, all of which involve a very very intense bond between the two. Because so much of the time in fiction a bond can only be valid if it’s not problematic. Alien/human symbiotic bonds are often reaching into the uncomfortable territory of something incredibly intimate and corrupting and toxic, without being able to shy away from the reality that things like Stockholm syndrome might also be at play

I was thinking a lot about Henry and his relationship with the mind flayer lately.

Even if they always fought for control and dominance over each other I can imagine that at least Henry sometimes found some twisted sense of comfort in not being completely alone. You have to remember that the mind flayer psychologically groomed him from childhood on and Henry had no human beings to cling to and find comfort in. On the contrary; every human being he was somehow emotionally attached to either left him alone, was taken from him or even tortured him. So I think he sometimes dropped his armour and even yearned for the dominating mental touch of the cosmic Eldrich entity which was somehow always there when everyone else rejected him…

so, my prediction for the end of QiB:

Black suit spiderman - MJ convinces Peter to try a go with the suit again bc she’s “changed” them

MJ and Peter kiss

maybe even before swapping the symby over

Eddie is the one who actually saves everyone tho (again)

super OOC scene where Eddie “accepts” Symby’s love for Peter and concedes that Peter is the “better man”

Eddie is left as a single dad raising Dylan but for some fucked up reason MJ and Peter get like, visiting rights

we still never get to see any end where Eddie treats Sleeper as his son again (despite his whole persona in First Host being so into parenting him)

Venom comics enter an era where they basically “share” black suit spiderman comics for awhile

Symby confesses their love for Peter and Peter goes 😏😏 ok fine~

eventually Peter becomes corrupted again after like 2 more fucking years of this shit and everyone relies on Eddie to save his ass again
