Do you think Mummy couldn't remember his name because of trauma from the transformation

Oooooo that's legitimately a very interesting concept.

I admit I'm not much of an expert on mummy but I know people who could be.

It could be totally possible that, as the centuries went by, he and other living mummies forgot their names, though transforming from men to monsters definetely helped them forget their identities as living humans.

As for why Mummy/Tupac is the most affected of all of them (or at least the other two mummies we saw in the sequels along with the mention of a mummy court) is because he's the one who has lost SO much after having to climb his way into recognition and fame.

Like yeah, that little prince brat and his whole family probably got mummyfied as well, but they are still together, maybe with all their staff and guards. Mummy doesn't have that. He doesn't look like someone who has a family, like parents, siblings or the like. If he has them, they could live far away and most likely didn't get to be inmortal monsters with him.

As far as I know, and I take that for a page of the coloring book of the upcoming movie, is that his closest friend was that white llama, who Mummy refers as "Pezuñitas" (Little Hooves in spanish), and that he missed his "old friend" so much, meaning that two things could have happen:

1) The llama didn't get to be mummified, so he and Tupac were separated when Paititi became a hidden, undead city, or...

2) The llama was transformed into an undead animal but couldn't follow Mummy into exile, be it because the court didn't let it go with his owner, or Mummy didn't want his friend to wander in an unknown land and seen as a monster by others because of him, so he ordered it to stay in the city.

In any case, losing his pet/best(?) friend most likely contributed to his insanity and not remembering his previous identity as well. And that loneliness it's why he's very close to Tad and company, hence why he's jelaous of Oli, because he's paranoid about losing everyone's love because of her.

As Tupac, he had a life, ambitions, good looks (by Incan standards, I think), a whole path to still discover, a community that adored him, a pet llama a job and prestige. He had it all.

Then the Conquistadors arrive, and he lost everything. Including his name, which sadly happened with many native culture that (as is the case with American and Canadian boarding schools) had their name forcibly taken away from them and had to use one more common and "correct", easy to remember, but always feeling in their lives that something was missing.

In Mummy's case, he adores the modern present, but he still misses home, who he used to be, what he was before the spanish arrived, what they took from him.

In other words, he's homesick and craving for an almost forgotten past and identity he was forced to leave behind for an historical event he was unable to predict, much less control.

Oh, and he and the other mummies forgetting their names could be a reference to all the incan and pre-hispanic mummies everywhere who are nameless because, unlike some mummies in Egypt, their cultures didn't recorded their names, hence why the archeological community who find them are the ones to name them in first place.

-Definetely was bullied as a child for daydreaming a lot.

-Always carries Super Cookies even if Jeff isn't around. You never know when you're gonna need them.

-Knows that brushes are a key tool for archeology but kind of had a resentment towards them because "Brush History 101" (as I like to call the class Tad took on the third movie) was super boring and because Ryu and his team of stuck-up archeologists would threw their brushes at him so he could clean them. He got over it as years went by, and by the time Oli is two years old, he developed fond memories of the tool because his daughter uses them to paint her drawings.

-Would still see, freeze, and because super in love with Sara as if it were the first time he saw her approaching him at that airport in Peru, no matter if years have passed, his love for her NEVER fades and only grows stronger.

-Totally an overprotecting dad in any way possible. He may loose a little at the end of the fourth movie regarding Oli and the adventures that she wants to participate so badly, but when she grows up and decides to have a boyfriend/girlfriend, oooh boy...

-Has a fond love for Peru, not only because he managed to meet the love of his life and his best friend, but also because it was the first place where he finally felt like the explorer he always dreamed to be (for the thrill of adventuring that he had as a child, not so much for the recognition like in the other movies). He usually goes there for vacations or holidays.

-He's still in contact with Freddy and Tiffany, having their phone numbers and talking with them once a month. Tiffany tells Tad how she became a full-time archeologist and is slowly becoming a well-known figure in the community. Tad would congratulate her and warn her to not make a team with Ryu and the others. They are not bad guys, but most of the time unpleasant people to be around. Freddy mostly calls Tad to ask him if he has already found something very valuable either to sell at a high price or becoming famous (which means they also get money). Tad would always answer "no", to Freddy's dismay. Nevertheless, they are still good friends and Freddy offers Tad to stay at his house any time he needs.

-He really appreciates having Mummy around as a Best friend/brother because he never had any of those before, but wouldn't show that at first because of how chaotic and impulsive the undead is. After the third movie, thing went more smoothly, then Oli arrived...

-It was him who came with the name "Olimpia" and feared at first that Sara would find it ridiculous because of how rare it was. He was greatly surprised when he found out Sara loved that name too.

-Would use most of his earnings to make sure Jeff is always healthy and well-fed. Same with Sara regarding Belzoni. They really love their pets.

-Post fourth movie, he will gain more respect for Mummy and the man he used to be, no matter if he was hero material or a traitor at the end of the Magic Lamp adventure, because the guy he has next to him is HIS bff Mummy and now he knows he's more complex and had deep reasons for going to the past and not just a simple tantrum. He would ask him if he remembers more of his acomplishments as Tupac, if Mummy is okay with sharing that info, of course.

-Still sees Proffesor Humbert at the museums he works, kind seeing him as a mentor/father figure.

Like, I'm excited as I always am for this franchise... but a talking dog is never a good sign :'D its a cliche that isn't always done right and really dumbs down the movie's humor - and then Belzoni too??? the parrot who's iconic for being mute and talking through his signs???

Idk, im not fond of this detail personally ^^'' They might use it vitally in the film, so ofc ill give it a watch before giving my final verdict... but if its solely done for "comedy" I'm not a fan-

I love Best Fiends.

I originally started playing it... gosh, when was it? I wanna say almost ten years ago? I ended up stopping the first time because I got a new device and didn't have an account saved.

Two years ago, I decided to start it again since I had a new tablet. I fell in love with the game all over again.

I love the gameplay. I love the characters. I love the aesthetic.

I also loved the customer service. There were a couple of occasions where I had an issue with the app, and so I contacted the team for help. They were exceptionally kind, understanding, and just all-around fantastic people to interact with (Warrior Woody on the support team, if you're out there, thank you so much!)

Nothing should have changed.

Then, a while back, the app moved hands.

Best Fiends was developed and originally owned by Seriously. Then, without warning, it was acquired by a company called Playtika. I'd never heard of them, so I didn't think much of it at the time. Even when the art style changed, although I didn't like it, I didn't hate it, so ultimately I didn't care.

Not long ago, a new type of event struck the game. Albums. The idea was to collect in-game "cards" to fill up themed "albums", and completing an album yielded in-game prizes.

This in itself was not an issue. I carried on.

But when the most recent album, Timeless Minutia, emerged, I noticed something was off. Specifically the cards. I looked closer at some of the art on the cards, and it looked almost AI-ish.

I didn't want to believe it at first. The new art style looked like it could be easily imitated by image generators, so I thought it was probably just an unfortunate coincidence.

Then I started getting more cards and looking at their images. Soon, it was unmistakable. The inconsistent patterns and asymmetry told all; generative imagery is terrible with patterns and symmetry.

Shocked at the revelation of this game stooping so low, I finally decided to look up Playtika and was appalled to discover their history.

I won't bore you with the details— you should look it up yourself anyway— but in summary, this is a cashgrab techbro company that has enacted HUGE employee layoffs in recent years... including a large chunk of the original Best Fiends development team.

I was disgusted. The integrity and transparency from the developers was something I had admired about BF for so long. Seeing that they'd been bought out by an entity that had such blatant disrespect for these people and for artists in general was heartbreaking.

That's when I felt I couldn't do this anymore. I couldn't keep playing a game that had lost its soul.

So, precisely 2 years after I had downloaded it, I said goodbye to Best Fiends, this time for good.

This might seem like a dramatic reaction to some people. "It's just a game". No, it was more than that. It was a shining example of a good and passionate game development team, consumed and destroyed by a heartless corporation.

To keep playing this mockery of what BF used to be, I think would be an insult to the developers from Seriously, especially considering how many of them were outright fired for profit by Playtika.

That, and I don't want to be around for whatever ridiculous money-grabbing move this company makes next.

Having said that, I sincerely hope those developers can find work elsewhere, with employers that actually respect them. I doubt any of them will find this post, but if they do, I have one thing to say to them:

Temper's redesign before it got totally ruined by Playtika vs...

Something I also enjoyed about playing Best Fiends was the fact that there used to be an event called "Minutia's Stories" that initially was focused on Temper's backstory (the main reason why I hate Jojo, Howie and Gordon), but when it focused on Jojo, I didn't have as many motivation as I used to have for that event and became inactive for a good long while. Also, has anyone on the Best Fiends fandom noticed that Best Fiends isn't as active as it used to on their social media???
