    life was a bit on the lonelier side for keyleth for many, many years. of course she was always there for her friends, ensuring that all of her attention would be on them. she went to percy and vex’s wedding, watching pike and scanlan wed and then divorce. she watched vex and percy’s family grow all the while keeping a control on her people. 

              ( the voice of the tempest. )

it held such a heavy title and yet on some nights it just felt so empty. the nights she felt the emptiest, that was when the raven would stay the longest. 

           ( how am i supposed to get over you if you keep sending me ravens? )

WHEN THEY’RE SLEEPING. it's not just the way they're at rest. it's that they're at rest with you. it's not just that they're safe but that they feel safe enough to let you see them like this. it's trust and it's intimacy. and you're not sure you're ready for them to see the emotions in your eyes right now. they've been through enough. you both have. sometimes it scares you just how much you love them. it terrifies you that you feel happy as they lay there, eyes closed and hair a little messy. their features twitch and you know they're dreaming and it scares you because if you fall asleep too you won't have a nightmare tonight. you'll dream of them. or nothing at all. and either way it will make you need them more. and you're not supposed to need anyone but it's them. you want to hold them in your arms and never let go. you want to protect them but you know they want to protect you to. this is the kind of love you long for and it's the kind which will hurt if you lose it. but here you are anyway. it's too late now. you're glad it's too late to go back.

keyleth was an enigma that vax’ildan would never understand, but would always chase to try and attempt to understand. he was a romantic, at heart, and a damn shitty one at times. pacing was never his strong suit. had he maybe pushed it a bit too far ?  too soon  ? he promised to wait. why did he do that? 

vax turns, not expecting keyleth in the slightest, but he’s glad to see her face. his hazel eyes scan, as if to quickly count to see if there’s one more freckle adorning her nose today than there was yesterday. ( something that never changes, but it’s one of his favorite features.) as he allows the flower in his hand, he laughs. it’s soft, and awkward. did they always have to be awkward around each other? couldn’t it be back to normal? what was even normal, vax’ildan would challenge himself to ask, and with vox machina, nothing was ever normal. ever. 

         “ can i ask why ? “ he asks, moving to put it in his hair, almost mocking the flowers that were adorned in her circlet. “ i mean, i’m certainly not you kiki, but this might need to be a new fashion statement. i might be onto something here,” he teases. he can already hear his twin in his head bickering that she’s the twin with the hair accessories.

simple words make the druid’s cheeks heat up immediately, even if it wasn’t so much as a direct compliment when it came to vax, she knew that it was. “ i think snowdrops suit you quite nicely, “ delicate fingers come up to adjust the snowdrop in his hair before embarrassment quickly floods through the gates of her body and her hand immediately coils back to her side. 

clearing her throat, she shakes her head. “ ah, well. see. i simply... have come to realize that things haven’t been quite the same since you told me what you told me. “ 

            ( how does one wear the big girl pants so easily? she’d simply have to                                             ask vex about this )

  “ i don’t want you to think that your.... “ keyleth trails off momentarily, green eyes adverting to catch anything but his eyes. “ i don’t want you to think that your feelings aren’t reciprocated, vax -- because they are .” she sighs fingertips rubbing at her temple for a moment. “ i don’t know about love quite yet, but i do like you. “ 

                       ( how can someone who has never been in love know what being                                               in love is like? you can’t. that’s the thing. )

   there was nothing more stressful to keyleth then wondering if she was liked by vex’ahlia. it was a difficult task of course to try to do things to please the half-elven ranger, but keyleth certainly would spend most of her time trying. of course that was to say that intimidation was often something that sat in her way a lot of the time and frankly, keyleth had yet to meet a person who would try to argue about how intimidating vex was.
