But at the same time, the fact that Elliot makes less money than him doesn’t seem to factor into his delusion that Elliot is a god. Nor does Irving’s lower-class affect stop him from believing everything that guy says. He tries to use class to establish his own superiority with people, but it doesn’t take much for the other person to turn the game around on them and convince him of their superiority. Irving, I think, does this on purpose, but Elliot does it completely by accident. I think that part of why Tyrell starts on this whole “Elliot is a god” thing is because he suffers from black-and-white thinking, so when Elliot rejects Tyrell’s “I am superior and you are a cockroach” framing (just brushes it off and barely notices Tyrell is trying to manipulate him), Tyrell immediately assumes that the opposite is true. I actually think Tyrell might see his relationship with Irving as being more equitable than his relationship with Tyrell, even though this is very much not the case, because Irving humours him. Irving agrees to Tyrell’s “I’m a god” framing and ties himself into it in order to manipulate him, and that feels more equitable to Tyrell than Elliot’s complete rejection of that framing. 

His classism and his sense of himself as a rich man ties into his delusions of grandeur, but I think the delusions of grandeur, as well as his whole suite of disordered thoughts, come first.

I’m wondering all this because I’m trying to figure out how he would interact with Leon. I feel like Tyrell’s reactions would set the tone, because Leon is laid back and tends to take people at face value. But if Tyrell starts going off on poor people being cockroaches, that’s going to go south VERY quickly.

I hate HCs that have Leon being jealous of Tyrell because Tyrell’s into Elliot, I think Leon is above that kind of pettiness. Like, is he really gonna compete with Tyrell for Elliot’s affection? He has more dignity than that. If Tyrell tries to sucker him into any love-triangle bullshit, Leon’s gonna be like “I’ve seen this sitcom already, change the channel.” If Elliot chooses Leon then Leon will be secure in that and trust Elliot and not be concerned about the creepy RWA trailing after him, and if Elliot doesn’t choose Leon then Leon will respect that choice.
