Soo I’m kinda struggling to get how people coin ‘bad’ lgbtq+ representation. For me the only true bad representation is the kind that falls into ‘killing our gays’ trope. You know, sure there’s types of representation I might not like or I actively avoid, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it bad.

For example, stereotypical depictions of gay people as flamboyant or over the top aren’t my favorite and I try to avoid them on tv. But I don’t think they’re bad, because I know there are people that really identify with those kinds of characters and I ain’t about to rain on their parade just because I don’t jive with it. Even lgbtq+ representation in flawed or evil characters aren’t bad (necessarily). I’d go as far as to say we need more flawed characters that are lgbtq+. We’re not a model minority and we shouldn’t risk alienating people if they aren’t perceived to fit into a defined idealism. That’s counterproductive.

This is my take atleast. Of course we still need more representation but what will be important is making it as diverse as this community really is.

So like...what’s the vibe of tumblr now a days huh? I’ve been gone so long and I don’t know how to sus it out yet. Feels kinda like stepping into a dark room that you know at one point in time harbored a rabid animal.
