Rhetorical dogwhistles are things that most people would not be able to identify as bigoted because they're INTENDED to have plausible deniability.

The wording changes are meant to be subtle enough that people really can mix them up accidentally when they don't have much information!

So when the gender critical movement calls trans women "transwomen", they're hoping for 2 things.

this usage will spread enough among people who don't know any better, to give transphobes the plausible deniability of not LOOKING like a frothing bigot constantly.

the usage grammatically places trans women in a different category than other women; it's changing "trans" from an adjective to part of a noun to make this distinction.

The more we can avoid this usage, the less deniability have transmisogynists have when using it, and the less rhetorical ground we cede to the degendering and misgendering of trans women.

when I was younger, I got food poisoning. I was supposed to recover from it, but I wound up with a bunch of nasty medical conditions instead. I never imagined I would become disabled from food.

It’s kinda silly, but I had a very religious upbringing and was taught I’d live for eternity and that I must devote my life to god in order to gain a spot in heaven - which sounded like absolute purgatory to my child self. I didn’t even ask to be born, and now you’re telling me I have to keep this bit up FOREVER? A lifetime is already overwhelming, let alone eternity.

There is a dearth of crows this morning. Only 1 crow has shown up and we have fed them handsomely.

Every time I throw out a peanut and it flies away, its gullet bursting with peanuts, I say, "Tell your friends!" As if this crow is an influencer for bird happenings.

The crow hung around for a while and eventually did call a buddy.

It perched on the fence and then started to do a weird.... thing.

i think most people who viciously enforce the idea that “speculating” on sexualities is evil do so because they think it is an insult to be described as gay. they think it harmful to “straight” people when someone says they are gay. because they default to heteronormativity and they think that being seen as gay is embarrassing!
