For what must have been close to an hour, Gabe had been pushing his way through the crowd, occasionally bumping into familiar or unfamiliar faces. He didn't mean to stray from his mission, he was just easily distracted. And the urge to find Teddy always remained. That's why he stayed, despite his body starting to feel heavy from the day's trip, and his brain feeling overwhelmed by lack of sleep and an overload of input from the party. Not to mention that Rubicund wasn't exactly his favourite place to be.
Gabe glanced at the time on his phone, unconsciously rubbed his eyes, and was about to call Teddy, when he heard Teddy's voice right beside him. He looked up, eyes already beaming, and saw that gorgeous smile. For a beat he was lost for words. Then his lips formed a cocky smile and he said, "It's detective now, actually," he tilted his head coyly, "Or starting Tuesday at least."
He couldn't take it any longer. He looped his free arm around Teddy's shoulders and pulled him close, pressed their lips into a quick, heated kiss, letting the space between them disappear.
Ah, right, the flowers. Teddy's words came as an echo in Gabe's mind. He spared the bouquet a glance. "I forget," he said with a shrug and held up the roses to his boyfriend. "Do you like them?"
"...oh, is it now?" His detective, Teddy thought as he smiled to himself. The pride he felt for his boyfriend's accomplishment was difficult to measure. He knew exactly how hard Gabriel had worked for this. The long hours, the sleepless nights spent memorizing case files, the sacrifices...everything it had taken to finally earn that title. So, what reason was there not to be, really?
The vampire was going to offer his congratulations, but before he could, he felt a warm set of lips on his. The kiss was sudden, hot, and tasted faintly of the city, breaking through Teddy’s composure. God, how? How could this human have such a hold on him? Did everyone else notice that too? The Rosu managed a muffled groan before melting completely into the touch.
Byrne's fingers squeezed at the other's hips, encouraging the kissing to go on until both their minds snapped back to reality. "Roses, Gabriel? In a place like this?" he said as he, too, moved a hand up to hold the bouquet. The delay in his response was on purpose but it didn't last. "I love them. Just..answer me this. You said something about Tuesday. Does that mean you're staying..?" That wasn't supposed to be the case for another two weeks.
