Hey Cameron
Someone had mentioned it to him in passing. Words about a familiar face, with pale, frekled skin and beautiful red hair navigating the crowded floor of the Rubicund in search of him. At first, Teddy had taken it for a cruel mistaking. An illusion, perhaps someone who resembled him, but Aretha knew better than to lie. Not to Teddy. Not when it came to Gabriel. And if it were true...why? God, why was he here? That was not part of the plan. Had something happened? Was he okay? Up in one of the balconies, the Rosu's gaze scanned the ocean of bodies with steady focus until his eye caught on something entirely out of place.
A bouquet of red roses. And the man holding them.
So he was...here. An exhale parted Byrne's lips, easing the tension, and then he moved, making his way through the very crowd, until he was right behind him. "You're a long way from home, officer." Teddy heard himself say, smiling. Yes. He was fucking smiling. It felt so good to feel him this close again; the worry hadn't even kicked in just yet. "Who are these flowers for, mh?"
For what must have been close to an hour, Gabe had been pushing his way through the crowd, occasionally bumping into familiar or unfamiliar faces. He didn't mean to stray from his mission, he was just easily distracted. And the urge to find Teddy always remained. That's why he stayed, despite his body starting to feel heavy from the day's trip, and his brain feeling overwhelmed by lack of sleep and an overload of input from the party. Not to mention that Rubicund wasn't exactly his favourite place to be.
Gabe glanced at the time on his phone, unconsciously rubbed his eyes, and was about to call Teddy, when he heard Teddy's voice right beside him. He looked up, eyes already beaming, and saw that gorgeous smile. For a beat he was lost for words. Then his lips formed a cocky smile and he said, "It's detective now, actually," he tilted his head coyly, "Or starting Tuesday at least."
He couldn't take it any longer. He looped his free arm around Teddy's shoulders and pulled him close, pressed their lips into a quick, heated kiss, letting the space between them disappear.
Ah, right, the flowers. Teddy's words came as an echo in Gabe's mind. He spared the bouquet a glance. "I forget," he said with a shrug and held up the roses to his boyfriend. "Do you like them?"
victoria glanced over to see who had responded to her little aside. it was just a human. odd. they usually didn't notice spirits. this one must be sensitive or already aware. something about him seemed... awfully familiar, but not in a way that she could currently put a finger on. "some walls." she agreed. "many of the physical ones, at least." there were complication with electric fences and the like, but that didn't seem like knowledge worth sharing widely. "do you think an ability to escape a cage negates, in some way, the fear of being put in one? it should, right? hmm."
"Oh I don't know... I guess it doesn't have to," Gabe replied with some thought, "Fears aren't always rational." He didn't want to undermine any feelings that the spirit might have as it wasn't unusual for them to carry fears and memories from their past lives. Perhaps she had some trauma connected with cages, or ferris wheels - who was he to judge? But personally, he didn't give his own fears much thought, he found that to be counterproductive. "At least I think it looks pretty cool. You can probably see the whole party from up there."
He looked too happy. Why was he so happy? Had Gabe already seen Teddy, and Daphne didn't know? It didn't matter. He had been gone for a while, and that was enough to make Teddy fall into a state of melancholy. That was all that mattered in her book. "Don't hello Daph me." She pouted, crossing her arms across her chest. "You did something bad. Something unforgivable. You made Teddy sad. That's not okay."
She leaned against him, wobbling towards the table. Maybe that last shot of liquid courage had been one too many. The room tilted back and forth just a bit as she walked with Gabe to the table. "It's good that you are back though. That will make him happy. I like when Teddy is happy. I forbid you to go again." She nodded as if simply saying it out loud made it law.
It wasn't yet clear to Gabe what had made Daphne so cross with him. He put it down to alcohol and some misunderstanding. Then she mentioned Teddy and his smile completely disappeared. "I guess I did," he swallowed and stooped his gaze. Of course, he had known that their separation wouldn't be easy for either of them. Teddy wasn't one to show a lot of emotion, especially not hurt, so if his friend had noticed, then it must have been bad. Or maybe Daphne was just very empathic. Either way, Gabe felt a pang of guilt.
"I hope I can make it up to him," Gabe said carefully and then added with a reassuring smile, "Don't worry, I'm not planning on leaving him again. I'm done with my studies now." He helped Daphne to a comfy couch and sat down in front of her. "So, how bad was it? With Teddy, I mean," he asked, eyes full of concern.

Daphne danced with the air, humming along to a song only she could hear. If her ankles hadn't been encased in the go-go boots, Daph would have broken them several times already with how she stumbled around. But none of that mattered, she was feeling good. This party was amazing. Everyone around her illuminated to the point that they looked almost ethereal. Nothing could go wrong tonight, of that she was certain.
Then she saw him. The one police officer that Daphne knew did his job. The one person who made Teddy's face light up. They needed to have words about his little disappearing act. Taking one more shot of courage, she swayed towards him. "You." She poked him. "You and I need to talk."
Finding Teddy at a vampire party was apparently as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack. Gabe was already about to give up and call Teddy's phone when he saw a familiar face, someone he could ask about his boyfriend's whereabouts. He smiled happily when the witch approached him, knowing she was a good friend of Teddy's. "Hello Daph-" he began but was cut off by a stern greeting and a surprisingly hurtful poke.
"We- oh, okay," Gabe nodded, his smile faltering slightly. He noted the sway to Daphne's step, her hazy gaze, and felt that he should probably help her to a chair and glass of water. "Let's find somewhere to sit and and do the talking" he suggested and gestured to some seats, while simultaneously bringing his arm close to her in case she would lose her balance.

the ferris wheel loomed over the festivities, twisting in a dizzy, hypnotic pattern. why did the very idea of this contraption send a shiver down her spine? it wasn't like it could kill her again. it was just metal and mechanics. a brightly illuminated brow furrowed into dark concentration while she stared down the machine. was it foolish to even admit something so sincerely trivial and whimsical scared her? victoria pursed her lips, chewing on a thought. "oh, it's a cage." she murmured mostly to herself. "what a nightmare."
In the ocean of impressions that threatened to overwhelm him, the ferris wheel had caught Gabe's attention. It stood out, loomed more like, over the party. And had he imagined it, or had he seen some familiar faces enter the ride? A voice next to him almost made him jump out of his skin, he hadn't noticed that they too had been staring at the rotating, mechanical wonder. "I guess you could call it that," Gabe replied, although unsure if the woman had actually spoken to him. He thought he recognized her as the spirit elder. "Although I wouldn't trust it to hold any criminal, especially not a spirit. You guys can walk through walls," he said with a wink.

Sizani had been moving to the beat for longer than she knew. She'd lost track of time and where she was at. The music was moving her and she got lost in the moment. Before she knew what was happening, she'd bumped into someone on the dance floor. Sizzy opened her eyes and looked up at the cage dancers on the celling and then to whoever she'd managed to dance into. "Sorry, I kind of got lost in the beat." She giggled softly and hoped the other person would be understanding.
Gabe was walking through the crowd of dancers, trying to stay out of the way for flailing arms while at the same time looking for someone. Both tasks felt equally impossible. At this point in the party, people were too drunk or too lost in the music to notice him, and sure enough someone tumbled right into him. Gabe managed to stay upright but almost lost his bouquet of flowers (blood-red roses). He quickly picked up the flowers and tucked them inside his jacket to keep them safe. "No, it's my fault, ma'am," he replied politely, despite feeling rather tense and tired at this point. "Are you alright?" he asked, quickly falling into his professional habit.

Music and neon lights pulsed through the air. Tonight, Rubicund wasn't just a club, it was a living creature. Intoxicated guests, glowing dancers, and prowling vampires filled the organism, gave it life. It took a moment for Gabe to adjust to this micro-cosmos, despite being familiar with both the Wine festival and the club itself, but tonight the place was practically on fire. He started doubting that coming there to surprise Teddy had been a good idea. It would have been much easier to go home and wait for Teddy to return in the morning. But somehow those extra hours, after months apart, felt excruciatingly long. No, he was going to surprise Teddy now. He just had to find him, or be found by him, in this pulsing sea of people. Piece of cake.
Clasping the bouquet of red roses tightly in his hand, he took a deep breath and stepped into the party.

He should have been expecting it. The shady side-alley, the cry for help just as he approached, the street light conveniently not working. Of course, it was a trap. As the back of his head hit the brick wall, his police walkie lying shattered at his feet, Gabe could only blame himself. He should have seen it coming. Kidnapping his ex, kicking his ass, threatening to do so much worse if he tried to get back at them, of course it wouldn't be so easy. Of course, he would send someone after them.
The tall, dark-haired vampire loomed over Gabe. He had never seen him before, but there was no doubt who had sent him. A hand strong and cold like marble closed tightly around Gabe's throat until his eyes started to water and his breath came out wheezing. "Getting cocky, are we, officer?" The vampire spat the words at him, "You think your Artemis rules will protect you? I don't see anyone coming to help you now, and no one will believe you later without any proof." Those predatory eyes pierced into Gabe's, but they didn't glamour him. What was he waiting for? Gabe's heart pounded so strongly that he could hear it.
Something warm trickled down the back of his head and a metallic smell filled the air. He could see the effect it had on the vampire just before he was forced to turn his head, exposing his neck to the vampire fangs that hungered to dig in. Gabe's hand reached after the pepper spray and fired it off in his assailant's face just as the fangs pricked his skin. The vampire hissed and momentarily let go. With no time to lose, Gabe bolted towards the nearby street shouting, "Help! Somebody, help me!", before the vampire caught up and tackled him to the ground. Luckily, it seemed that someone had heard his cry for help.
"Of course, please." He gestured broadly to the other chairs at the small table, happy to have someone else to sit with. "Gabe, right?" They'd been introduced once ages ago, but he mostly recognized Gabe from when he'd shown up around the shard. He'd also gotten pretty good at guessing when Gabe had visited even without seeing him because that accounted for at least half of the times when Teddy's ice queen persona cracked. "I'm not sure, I've just had magic drinks backfire on me too many times to jump in headfirst so I'm happy to see what happens to you first." Also hopefully Chris could help steer him away from anything dangerous.
"Thanks," he offered a friendly smile as he joined the vampire at the table, "That's right. Gabe Moore. I guess you've seen me at the Shard. Sorry, I don't remember your name." Although the face was a familiar one, he had to admit that he couldn't memorise the name of every vampire working with Teddy.
"Ah, so you're happy letting the human take the first bite," he commented with a snigger. He'd had some mixed experiences with the food at magic events too, but he doubted the deities would make their guests experience anything too mischievous. "This one seems harmless so far." The second bite of strawberry ice melted in his mouth and, despite the cold, spread a feeling of warmth in him. "Would you like a bite? Of the ice ball... preferably," Gabe added with a warm twinkle in his eyes.
Through the fog, Teddy felt a sudden heat; a pair of hands, soft and insistent, moving against his skin. It felt like an intrusion, a violation of the cold, quiet vacuum he’d drifted into after the collision, but then there was that voice he knew so well and his vision snapped into focus at once, recognizing his boyfriend staring back at him with a worried look painted across his face.
He'd been cheering so loud for him moments ago and now he was...here. The vampire smiled and leaned into the cool pressure of the cloth, letting out a slow, jagged breath at the other's efforts to clean up the blood. "I'm fine." he huffed as he reached up to catch Gabe’s hand where it rested against his face and pull it down slightly.
His thumb rolled over the officer's fingers, finding one lacking something from their last ... god, why did these bloody alternate realities keep happening? "..I'm sorry, what?" Teddy finally murmured, blinking for a second. "Oh..right. I used to be into sports back in the day. I also pick things up pretty fast."
"I heard you out there, by the way.." he murmured, releasing his hold to let the man continue in his efforts. "You've got one hell of a voice, Moore. Don't think I didn't notice.."
The skin beneath his hand so cool, and even the blood so strangely cold, but in those blue eyes a warmth like the summer sky. Gabe's smile broadened when Teddy's hazy eyes recognised him and his gaze became more steady than just moments ago. "Of course you're fine. I'm just cleaning you up," Gabe assured his boyfriend even though Teddy didn't seem ready to go out on the ice quite yet.
"You'll have to tell me more about your past as a hockey pro," Gabe joked and placed a kiss on Teddy's hand that was holding his. "Good, I was trying to be heard. I wanted to make sure everyone knew whose team I'm on."
A couple of dabs and then Gabe was just cleaning old blood, the wound having stopped bleeding. Still, he worried that Teddy might be too much in a hurry to get back into the game, and he wasn't ready to let him go yet, and it wasn't just because he wanted Teddy to recover his strength. A feeling of strong romantic attraction was coursing through him, stronger than what he had gotten used to around his boyfriend. Man, it was driving him crazy, just being this close, skin touching skin. Before he had time to register the movement he was already pressing his lips and tongue to Teddy's in a heated kiss.
Pulling away for air and vaguely becoming aware that there were people around them he mumbled softly, "Do you feel strong enough to go out there? I- you know I could give you some blood, if you need."

Even if he couldn't really taste human food anymore, he could still smell it, and so Chris had gotten himself a cup of vampire friendly mulled wine and snagged a table at the edge of the food stalls. It let him watch the people moving around the area while a small turn let him look at a few of the other outdoor attractions. He'd watched some of the hockey games, alternately cheering or wincing as people ran into each other before deciding to go for something calmer. He'd spotted some people he recognized in the crowds and nodded to them as he'd made his way over to his current spot, but most of them seemed to be either busy with other people or off in their own worlds. After a while though, someone else drifted close enough that Chris leaned towards them to talk. "I've been seeing the little birds flying around with the ice balls, but I can't figure out what they do yet. Any ideas?"
There was a lot to be amazed by at the Ice festival -- ice sculptures, beautiful guests, the smells and tastes of unctuous foods. After strolling around with Teddy for awhile, the two separated so that Teddy could prepare for the hockey match, and Gabe took the opportunity to enjoy the food stalls. He's grabbed something hot to drink and eat, and to top it off picked up an icy dessert. The hockey match wasn't due to start yet so he looked for a place to sit in the meantime, and found someone else in need of company. "Hey, mind if I sit here?" he asked the other, recognising him as one of the vampires of the Rosu clan. "I got one of them actually," Gabe said, holding up the red, strawberry-flavoured ice ball, "It's some sort of dessert." He took a bite and felt the sweet, refreshing flavour fill his mouth as the syrupy ice melted on his tongue. "Are they supposed to do something else than taste amazing?" he asked with a grin.
THE ICE HOCKEY MATCH
To many, Teddy’s presence on the field might have felt like an anomaly. It was an unusual sight, sure, but once upon a time, before war took everything from him, sport had been something that the vampire had found great joy in. Still, this wasn't the reason why he had decided to join the match. He'd been feeling rather restless lately, holding up tension and quite frankly? A whole lot of pent up anger. So yes, when he'd seen the opportunity to let some of it go, he'd signed up for it right away, hoping that Gabriel might stay and watch.
He played with a reckless, frantic energy that bordered on dangerous. Took no bloody chances against the opposing team and it got to the point where what should have happened, happened: a collision, followed by the heavy thud of him hitting the boards after sliding straight across the ice. The concussion blurred the vampire's vision into a smear of stadium lights, his body giving up for a moment, and forced him to retreat to the sidelines.
Slumping onto the wooden bench, the vampire refused any help and was starting to remove the heavy gear when the shadow of a person fell on him. He didn't look up, instead pressing an ice bag to his throbbing temple, ignoring the blood trickling down that side. "I'm good." he scoffed, "Just caught a bad fucking angle, alrite? Give me a minute and I'll be back in the heat of it. Christ.."

"Go team A! Go team A!" Gabe chanted from the gallery, waving his scarf like a banner above his head. The display had surely earned him some annoyed glances from others in the audience, but Gabe paid them no attention. His eyes, full of affection and admiration, were following his boyfriend as he skated across the ice. Gabe would have loved to be on the team and join up beside him, but as sporty and active as he might be, it would simply be too dangerous for him to play against a team of supernaturals. Sometimes being human sucked. But he didn't mind being the supporter and cheering for his vampire boyfriend this time. "You're looking great, Teddy! Yeah, you show them!"
Teddy was scoring goals and moving in circles around the opposing team as if he'd been born to do it. And Gabe was there, cheering him on. Then the tackle came that knocked Teddy off his feet. Gabe felt his stomach turn to ice. "Foul!" he shouted in anger, "Hey, where is that referee looking?" Despite the magic of the ice ball still filling him with loving feelings, the scare of Teddy's injury had awoken a fury within him. Fuming with anger and worry, he rushed to the side bench where Teddy was sitting, looking a little worse for wear. Gabe pushed the other people aside, grabbing a towel from someone offering first-aide, and slid down next to Teddy.
"Hey, love, slow down," he said softly, without a trace of the fuming anger. His hand came up to cup Teddy's cheek and turn his face towards him. "It was foul play, but they won't knock you down for long," a proud smile played on his lips, "You were great out there. Now, let me clean you up." Gabe put the towel to Teddy's temple and started dabbing at the wound, cleaning away the blood. It was worrying to see his boyfriend bleed, but he told himself that it was temporary and would soon heal. "Where did you learn to play like that?"
