Where do you see technology in 50,500,10,000 years?
Hello Anonymous,
You've posed a very interesting question, which demands a thoughtful response.
The following technological predictions apply to 50 years from now:
The personal computer will become more personal. So personal that it will actually exist within the person. The individual will literally become the new thin client, possessing an embedded microchip, possibly one that is controlled form a central main frame. The operating system will likely be some form of Windows. At least we are hoping this much, as this will allow our IT support business to continue and thrive.
The ICANN will accept defeat by making available ".cum" domain names, the internet having at that point become nothing but a centralized database of pornography.
VRML will finally have it's day with the advent of Internet2, which will presumably be a heavily regulated virtual interconnected network of highly screened, and highly avatar'ed people.
500 years from now:
Motrin will change it's name to Motron, having at this point become a nano-techology robot capable of rewiring neurological circuits for the purpose of alleviating any perception of physical discomfort, or whatever other physiological condition the government deems "useful" to alleviate.
Cell phones will no longer be required, as all communication will take place through some form of etheric telepathy. The human brain, having been aided by embedded microchips for the past 100 or 200 years, will literally evolve to no longer require a technological aid. Windows will literally be embedded into the neuron structure. Insanity will become common. There will be mass panic about "The Blue Screen of Death."
Samsung will finally release an Android 2.3 update to their Galaxy S line.
10,000 years from now:
Depending on your current sexual habits, the world population may or may not expand or contract. There may or may not be a May. The Ox will resume it's utilitarian purpose.
Humans will evolve into sheep. Oh wait, that already happened.
Jupiter's moon Titan will become the new Cancun.
Squirrels will likely handle all the tech support.
The chimps will have written 100 Hamlets, and having become bored, will decide to discipline Humans with their anti-human rhetoric.
Due to human experimentation with wormholes and antimatter, the laws of physics begin to break down. The human brain, incapable of comprehending what it has done, will cease to comprehend at all, hence the chimps rising to power.
Inanimate objects will stage protest rallies in favor of Inanimate Object Liberation. The chimps will not appreciate this.
Chimps.
Now, how do YOU see technology in the future?
