TAZ Amnesty Enigma Project

A shiny new month has arrived and with it is another project update!

Things are moving along really well! In addition to some more frames getting done, the text writer has been working very hard and we’re starting to see some truly finished frames, ready to be synced up! I also did a mockup with some of the finished drawings just to test length and it looks really, really good. I almost cried watching it, and I’m so proud of the work everyone has done so far!

Of course, we still have some unfinished frames as well as some open frames left! We’re aiming for a May 25th submission date, so this may be your final chance to join the project, but we’d still be happy to have any more people who want to join! If you want to draw a frame, simply send a message to this blog and I’ll add you to the discord which has channels for organization, chatting, as well as a channel to post unfinished pieces and ask for people’s opinion or help with it! if you need more info on style or context, check out this post here! Hello lovely people! I’m happy to announce that things are going well for the Enigma Project! I’m resetting the due date for May 25th, in hopes of finishing the project and releasing it for May 31st, the anniversary of the 28th episode. Of course, that means if you want to hop on this project, now is a really good time because I’m going to be posting more frequent updates and checking in more often. 

This is also a post asking for a new type of artist! If you’re interested in joining but you don’t like drawing portraits or scenery, or you don’t feel confident in your art skills quite yet, don’t worry, because I need a Handwriting Artist to write out the lyrics in png so that I can assemble them on the frames! You don’t need to have fancy handwriting, or even good spelling since I’ll be providing you with a sheet of the lyrics, you’ll just need to write them out and send them to the project email! If you’re interested, message the blog here and I’ll check it out to see if it matches the feeling I’m looking for! 

Of course we’re always accepting new artists as well, we have 3 frames unclaimed as well as a few places where frames can be added if inspiration strikes you! Well, between breaking my arm and getting COVID tested twice, I’ve gotten a bit behind on this project. However, I’m here with an update! (and a little surprise at the end)

With school and the holidays, things have slowed a bit in terms of progress, but we’re still doing pretty well. We have some finished frames submitted, and we still have three or four open frames for new artists!

If you’re unfamiliar with this project, it’s an animatic project to“Enigma” by Go! Child, surrounding the events of Ned Chicane in the Adventure Zone’s Amnesty arc. The original date was Mid May last year but because of the Turbulent Times I’ve moved it a few times. It’s a community project for all types and levels of artist to showcase how amazing and talented and varied this community is, and I’m always looking for new artists to join! We have animators, flat color artists, cartoon style and realistic style artists who have all come together to work on it, and it’s mostly being arranged through a very chill, super awesome discord server ^_^ If you feel like joining, please drop me a message and I’ll link you to the frames!

And now, I have gotten Special Permission from one of our great artists to show you a few of the in-progress frames! They’re already finished, but I don’t want to give it all away quite yet. So here’s a few frames (including an animated one which is SIGNIFICANTLY higher quality than tumblr does it justice of but I’m in the car so I can’t make a better GIF) from the lovely @squiibbly​ who is a part of the project!

So as expected, when a lot of the US opened from Quarentine, a few schedules became a lot more busy and so I haven’t had time to post an update. However, the project is still moving ahead, and I’m still SUPER stoked about the art I’ve recieved and the product is coming along well!!

Since the initial start of the project, we haven’t had any new artists join, and we do still need 5-9 artists. There’s a variety of frames that need drawing, there’s a few portraits as well as an action frame and even a frame of just the empty cryptonomica, and although the project is mainly Ned-focused a lot of the unassigned frames have characters like Minerva and Duck, Mama, Boyd Mosche, and of course a few of Ned as well. There’s no specific style requirements, we have some realistic-artists as well as comic-style and even one or two animation artists working on this project, as well as myself who has the art style of someone who has never held a pen before and is Just Kinda Doin Their Best, and I would love to get any and all artists in the mix!

There’s no set due date quite yet, because I want to keep it as open as possible with the uncertainty of the times and schedules of those involved, and there’s a variety of finished product levels from people who have finished to people who haven’t started yet already on the project so you don’t need to worry about coming in late and everyone waiting on you! We would be happy to have new artists on the project and show as many talents and styles as we can!

We’re starting to get the finished frames submitted! The project is looking so good and I am legitimately so stoked to put it all together, but We still need more artists! 

The way it looks right now, we have a few frames open, specifically some with Duck, Minerva, Boyd, Mama and of course a few of Ned, as well as one shot of just the interior of the Cryptonomica. Of course, these are just the suggested frames, and if after a look at the project an artists wants to substitute a frame for one they feel fits better or just wants to draw, we do have a few of those changes that have been made! 

 Again, one of the ideas of this project is to showcase as many styles and types of art as possible, so if your style is more cartoon-influenced or realistic-influenced or even physical art that you could scan, any style is encouraged. 

The due date has been extended to the 8-10th of June, so about two weeks from the time of writing this post, but if there’s any conflict or concern about the date at all, I’m very open to discussion and allowing extra time. A lot of the current artists on the project also need a bit of extra time, so don’t feel bad coming in later or needing more help at all!

So the project is going really well! on the discord, a lot of people are beginning to send in WIPs of their frames and y’all... it’s legitimately so amazing. There’s so many different styles and so many talents involved in this project and I am STOKED

There’s still about 7-10 frames left open, and if more than that join, I have Backup Frames I can also add so everyone gets an opportunity. I’d like to have as many styles represented as possible and as many artists involved as are willing to be, so don’t be afraid to shout out if you’d like to join! The discord server is very chill and we’ve talked a lot about ridiculous things as well like songs that make us cry over Duck and who Me is in My Brother, My Brother, and Me.

As of today, the official Concept Video for the project has been finished and frame assignments and changes are starting! There are about 30 frames, and I’m still looking for artists, so if you’re a TAZ artist please let me know if you’re interested! 

The general information about this project is that it is a community project that is a video surrounding the general storyline and character arc of Ned Chicane. It will be put together as a lyric video with still images drawn by various artists in the TAZ fanart community, and one of the points of the project is to highlight varying styles and individuality in the community so all levels and styles are welcome! There’s more than just frames with Ned as well, there are some frames with Duck, Aubrey, Mama, even some frames with just the Amnesty Lodge or Cryptonomica so even if portraits aren’t your specialty you’re absolutely encouraged to join! You can offer to do as many frames or as few as you like, and there’s even some frames that may be added if we have so many people that we need more.

The project is currently being organized over Discord, however this blog will also have the updates as well as kept checked up regularly so if you don’t have a discord absolutely no worries! 

Currently, I’m looking to have all the art submitted by the 25th May, if possible to have it posted by May 31st (The anniversary of the episode of Ned’s death), however if we miss the deadline there’s no big worry, this project has been waiting for a year it can wait a little longer. 

So a fair amount of participants have said that they would prefer to communicate through discord as well as having a blog for updates, so I have started a discord for those involved!
