anakin has always been obsessed with obi-wan ever since he was very young despite palpatine's constant efforts to turn him against obi-wan he kept failing because to anakin obi-wan has ALWAYS been inseperable from himself. he does not know who he is without obi-wan. for obi-wan this comes later, during the war, because prior to that he already had a pretty well-established sense of self. its the war that (literally, canonically) forges their lives into one; its only then that obi-wan cant imagine a life where he never trained anakin; its only then that he can look at a hologram of anakin kneeling to the lord of the sith and killing children and still refuse to believe it because thats his anakin, thats half of himself, he cant be doing that. even after two decades alone in the desert obi-wan still hopes he'll wake up one day and find anakin at his door. and, well, we know even as vader he is never not thinking of obi-wan even when obi-wan is already dead

anakin gets criticized for being too greedy but honestly the things anakin wants are often like. "for my loved ones to be safe" "to be around people that like me and are nice to me" "to be respected as a person"β¦ heβs not really asking for much
