casual fatphobia is so awful like what am I supposed to do when I overhear a group of people jokingly calling each other fat?? And nobody notices this and thinks “hey that’s kind of weird” and nobody notices that they’re making these jokes to each other within earshot of a fat person. They don’t even consider that. I actually heard someone say “I hate fat people” in passing once. Every other insult joke between friends is calling each other fat in some way. I heard that girl say she can’t eat that oreo she was offered, she’ll get fat. (<- which is a whole other type of thing that makes me worry for her mental health but god it is still not fun to overhear. If you think that about yourself then what do you think of me?) Every single ad is a skinny person every single everything is a skinny person, the fattest person they’ll show on tv that’s not a joke character or a man usually looks like they wear a large instead of a medium or small and nothing bigger than that. You guys you can’t keep calling each other fat as a joke as a bit “it’s just a joke” and fatness cannot keep being the punchline of everything because I’m literally right here and even if i wasn’t right there i still exist. And another thing, WHY whenever i mention im fat because its CONVERSATIONALLY RELEVANT the response is always some form of “you’re not fat!! you’re beautiful” as if those contradict as if those can’t both be true. One of the people in my life I just couldn’t bring it up anymore even when it was relevant because that was always her response and I explained each time that I’m not calling myself ugly i’m just stating a true objective fact and her reasoning was basically that “well you never know, you could be making self deprecating comments actually and brushing it off” how fucked up is that. That someone who I care for and cares for me can’t stop to think for a moment that maybe when I say something true and factual about myself the only possibility is that it’s self deprecating. that’s insulting me that isn’t comforting me or making me feel better about my body or my image or whatever that is INSULTING me. Why is the way I look so bad to people??? I’m just trying to live man
