well! anyways, you and taesan are on your sofa in your pajamas, each on opposite sides with mugs full of hot tea—your respective favorite flavors—in your hands. your legs are tangle over each other’s in a complex criss-cross pattern.

“can you believe it?” taesan starts.

what a thought provoking question, you think. taesan always starts off a conversation with a question containing absolutely zero context.

you tilt your head a bit. “believe what?”

he emphasizes each word, “woonhak is onto his next talking stage already. it’s been, what, 4 days?” his eyebrows furrow as they always do when he’s talking about something with passion.

“i could believe it,” you respond with a hint of sarcasm.

you take a sip from your warm mug and watch as taesan shuffles in his seat. you like to test him, act like a know-it-all.

“okay, i could believe it too,” taesan surrenders, “but, still!”

you hide back your smile, finding how defeated he looks to be adorable. that is why you test him.

you reason, “we know that woonhak is just doing this out of hurt, though. this is his way of coping with… you know.”

taesan hums, calming down now. “mm, for sure. he’s still not over his first love. that got him good.”

you nod.

a short moment of comfortable silence passes. taesan takes a small sip of his tea before he subtly—or what he might think is subtle—clears his throat and looks at you with a glint of hesitancy.

that’s strange.

“you know…” his voice comes out quieter this time; a little strained like his throat is struggling to let the words flow out.

you wait for him to continue.

taesan’s eyes move to his lap. “i think you’re my first.”

there it is. taesan’s heart was too full that his throat could not possibly hold back such a strong confession.

“your first… what?” you blink.

he stares back at you, eyes full of an emotion you have never seen in your boyfriend before; by uncovering this blanket of indescribable emotion, one would find fear.

and, for the first time in you and taesan’s relationship, you sense a crack in the comfort. a change that cannot be determined to be good or bad at first glance. to define it, you’ll just have to wait and see.

“my first love.”

your heart begins to stutter. your mind can’t form a coherent thought anymore.

you let out a breath, “oh.”

then, as a common coping mechanism of yours, you wrack your brain to something that taesan had told you back when you were just friends.

you use this aged piece of information as an attempt to change the tone of the current topic. you ask, “taesan, i thought you didn’t believe in first loves?”

yet, taesan is determined to keep this conversation on track.

“i used to not believe in first loves. i do now.”

your mouth gapes open a little.

“because of me?” you test the waters back.

he’s still staring at you. “because of you, yeah.”

ah, fuck it. this feels about right for time and place.

“taesan,” you try to steady your voice, but your words still come out shaky, “you love me?”

“yes, yn. i love you.”

you shuffle in your seat to straighten yourself up.

“taesan, i love you too.”

it feels as if a truth that you’ve been holding onto has finally come to light. all of a sudden, you want to say the phrase that you once did not wish to be spoken of over and over again.

taesan fixes his posture as well, leaning forward so your faces are directly in front of each other. he smiles without his teeth, pupils dipping their focus from your eyes to your lips.

he slowly closes the short distance between your lips as his hand, warm from the mug, moves up to caress your cheek.

taesan smiles softly into the kiss, and the corners of your mouth can’t help but lift with his.

you pull apart just enough to make the tips of your noses touch. you admire his beauty; the emotion in his eyes is love. it always has been.

you desire to stare at taesan’s pretty face for longer, but he engulfs you tightly in his arms and the two of you fall onto the armrest of the couch. he stuffs his face into your neck and rapidly places more kisses there. that’s fine too. taesan’s pretty face can be there too, you suppose.

he mumbles “iloveyou” again, and again, and again.

you chuckle, “taesan! i get it, stop! our tea is gonna spill!”

the words i love you will never be foreign to you ever again.

the cold winter air slapped you like a slap to the face, freezing your feet that managed to slip out of your blanket. you quickly scrambled to slip on a hoodie as you noticed how the hairs on your arms sat straight on your skin, covering yourself in a thick layer of warmth. 

as you walked downstairs, your mother handed you a thin envelope, decorated with a small smiley face in the corner. “woonhak came over earlier and wanted to give this to you. not sure what it’s about but he seemed nervous,” she said, eyeing the paper from where she was standing. “such a sweet boy, i wonder why he stopped coming over so often.” your mother sighed, unknowingly speaking directly to the reason behind it. 

knowing the letter would likely break your heart, probably about how he’d lost feelings for you or something along those lines, you decided to go back up to your room, throwing yourself on your bed. you carefully tore into the letter, making sure to preserve the envelope just in case it was the last thing you’d get from woonhak. the letter was folded up four times, looking extremely small in the huge wrapping. you unraveled the now very creased paper, reading words that were obviously rewritten a couple times, proven by the eraser marks. 

hey, do you remember me? it’s me, woonhak from next door!  last year, you rejected me… i cried all night ㅠㅠ  even my hyungs cried with me!!  but today, i’m bravely confessing again! you’ll listen, right?  come to the park @ 11:29pm  i hope i’ll see you there, y/n  -kwh 

your heart couldn’t help but tighten at his words. of course you remember him, you don’t think you could even force yourself to forget him. after all, he’s the first love of your life, and hopefully your last, too. 

just ten minutes before 11:29pm, you left your house, dressed in the same hoodie you had on in the morning. as you walked out of the front door, small crystals fell from above you, peppering the sleeve of your hoodie with white. the park looked beautiful. all the equipment had been littered with snow, except for a tall figure sitting on the swing, steadily swinging to and fro. it was woonhak. 

once he noticed you, he got up, his hand rubbing the back of his neck. “you came,” he said with a weak smile, as if he expected you to ignore his request. “i know i already ruined things last time, but i can’t help but think about you all the time, y/n.” he sighed, breath turning into steam in the cold air. “could you just… listen? you don’t need to answer me or anything. i just need you to be here.” 

you nodded, standing just in front of woonhak. “y/n, i’m sorry about last year. i really didn’t mean to kiss you, it was just a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing, and…” woonhak looked down to his feet, his fingers fiddling with the hem of his hoodie. “i thought that you rejecting me would help me, y’know… get you out of my mind and stuff, but you’re still there.” his eyes finally gazed at you, his expression downhearted. “i know it’s selfish to tell you this again, but until now, i like you. i don’t think this feeling is gonna leave me soon, or ever for that matter. i don’t expect you to say you like me too, considering what i did, but i need to let it out before my feelings eat me whole.” he lets out a long breath as he finishes his confession. 

the tension between you two is suffocating. woonhak opens his mouth like he wants to say something, but promptly puts his lips back together, unable to find the right words. 

“woonhak,” his head darts up, looking at you with hopeful yet unanticipated, bracing himself for his second heartbreak. “ever since the day we started talking, i’ve had a crush on you.” 

the words hit him like a brick to the head, waking him up like he had been splashed with water. “w-what? y/n, you-” he’s blinking faster as if it’ll help him figure out what to say, but his mouth runs dry. 

“let me talk, woon.” you chuckle, sniffling at the chilly weather. “that night, when you confessed, i didn’t reject you, woonhak. i couldn’t get a word out because you kissed me, and when i tried to speak, you left my house and didn’t show up the next day.” you can slowly see the pieces fitting into the puzzle in woonhak’s mind just through his eyes. “i like you. a lot. so please, give me another chance?” 

rather than telling you a yes or no, he took your face in both of his hands and pressed his lips to yours. it was like déjà vu. last year, you told yourself you’d never let the moment slip out of your grasp if it ever managed to come back, and today, you’d fulfill that. 

he leaned in slowly, giving you every chance to pull away. but you don’t. when your lips meet, it’s soft – feeling warm despite the cold. you kiss him back properly this time, filling it with the desire you wish you had given this time last year. you can feel him smile against your lips, like he’s been waiting for this exact moment, because he probably has. 

when you pull away, your breaths mingle in small clouds. “let me make it up to you for last year and let me treat you right, if it’s not too late. please?” 

“it’s never too late for you, y/n.”

If you had to pick which season of the year was your favourite, it would be the Christmas season. It was one that brought you plenty of surprises and fun, precious memories filled with love with your family and friends. Of course, it could only get better, now that you’ve found someone you love to share this special season with…if he wasn’t holed up in your band’s production studio.

You and Taesan were basically high school sweethearts, with him being in the school band and you slowly falling for him throughout his many band performances throughout your freshman year, only for you to join that same band as the only female bassist during the next year and find out that Taesan already had the fattest crush on you from that very first moment he met you during one of your shared lessons. Needless to say, the very band that got you two together kept going after everyone graduated, and now you guys are being recognised as an up-and-coming indie band in the country.

Of course, such a title being placed on your band certainly puts pressure on the 7 members in this band, especially on Taesan, Jaehyun and Woonhak. As the production team behind your songs, they definitely carry a huge weight for the team. But certainly, there should be a limit to this…right? Especially when Christmas draws near, yet the last thing that’s causing you to be unable to get into the Christmas spirit despite your shared apartment being decked out for the holidays is…well, your boyfriend. Whom you’re currently staring at as he sighs and wrecks his brain while working tirelessly on the new album.

You slowly walked over to the back-facing figure slouched over the desk scribbling away in his notebook as a soft melody looped over and over again through the speakers beside the desktop in the centre of the desk, gently wrapping your arms around his neck as you rested your head on his shoulder, planting a small kiss on the underside of his jaw. “How’s my extremely-hot-and-talented producer and electric guitarist boyfriend doing?”

Taesan leaned into your embrace, hands abandoning his book and pen for your arms, sighing as he gently stroked your forearms with his thumbs. “Your extremely-hot-and-talented producer and electric guitarist boyfriend is running out of ideas for the new album and might be five seconds away from scrapping lyrics again. But what can I do? We need to finish this album as soon as we can, it’s been a while since we put out music.”

The exhaustion in his voice tugged at you, you really did not like seeing your boyfriend wear himself thin just to ensure that the band had something to put out for the world to see. Lucky for you, you just had the exact plan to drag your boyfriend out of the producing chair and give him a break, whether he likes it or not. (oh trust me, he DEFINITELY LOVES it)

Christmas Mission: Drag Taesan out of his chair and teach him the bass.

You spun his chair for him to face you before making yourself comfortable on his lap, still wrapping your arms around his neck. “So I have an idea, remember how you asked me a few days ago what I wanted for Christmas?”

“Yeah, what about it?” Taesan cocked an eyebrow up, resting his hands on your waist as he drew little circles on your skin with his thumbs. “I want you to learn the bass, and in return you teach me how to play how to play your electric guitar!”

Seeing your eyes sparkle with excitement, Taesan couldn’t help but agree to your wish. Not because it was your wish that he had to fulfil, but it was a wish he wanted to fulfil because it made you happy. Being able to see your joyful smile, even while doing the most mundane things in life, filled him with so much energy and happiness. Though he did wish you would teach him another one of the many instruments you knew how to play, instead of the bass.

Gosh, he was truly head over heels for you, it's a surprise the rest of the band hasn’t gotten diabetes.

He willingly let you drag him to the practice room next door, where your instruments were located in. Cables connecting the wired mics to the speakers sprawled all over the floor as Taesan’s and your guitars were arranged neatly in the guitar rack by the side of the studio. “Pick a bass, I’ve got 4-string ones and 5-string ones, but my personal favourite is this one.” You pointed excitedly to the sleek white-coloured bass guitar while you hopped over the cables, though it was a little scratched up from your frequent use. Taesan followed behind, recognising it as the very first bass guitar you bought with your hard-earned money.

“You can pick for me, love. I trust your choice.” Hearing that, you immediately reached out for your favourite bass guitar and handed it to him. Yeah, well, he actually wasn’t expecting you to choose that one. Taesan’s eyes widened as he gingerly held your precious bass guitar in his hands. “Are you sure you want to let me use your favourite?” You nodded, replying, “The bass isn’t an instrument that changes much, it’s just the sound that differs. Plus, I use this bass almost every day, so the strings are really seasoned.”

Sitting side by side on the pillow-lined couch at the front of the studio, you gently guided Taesan’s fingers to the frets and the pick-up, teaching him the different notes on the guitar and the basic strumming rhythms. Despite this being his first time playing the bass, he looked as if he’d been playing it for years. The way his calloused fingertips on his left hand slid along the frets effortlessly, his index and middle finger plucking on the different strings as he moved his way down to the very last note, the laidback posture of his wrist resting on your bass…

“Earth to Y/N…? I would like to have my girlfriend back please, she’s in the middle of teaching me how to play her bass guitar.” Taesan chuckled, seeing you snap out of your dazed expression as you frantically tried to recall what you’d wanted to teach him next.

Surprisingly (well not really, considering he’s the band’s electric guitarist), Taesan picked up the bass extremely fast, even mastering how to do the slap bass technique, one that took you years to learn (not even at the mastering stage!). At this point, you lowkey started considering quitting the band and letting this musical genius of a rockstar boyfriend you had take over your job. “Impressed, babe?” Taesan flashed a grin at you as he played a simple riff on the bass effortlessly. You sighed as you crossed your arms, “Of course, but I fear that my job here is being threatened by my very own rockstar.”

Taesan got up, returning your bass to the guitar rack and swapping it for his own electric guitar. ”Well, you could learn the electric to take my job? The day you take my job is the day I’ll run around in the neighbourhood shouting that my girlfriend is the coolest girlfriend in the whole entire world.” Let’s just say that statement got him a well-deserved smack on the arm and a “Oh hell no, don’t you dare”.

Unfortunately for you, the instrument switch isn’t doing much justice for you. Not only were your fingers tweaking with every shape formed from trying to press all the notes correctly, but changing chords was an actual struggle that you honestly thought wouldn’t occur with you. Not to mention the jump in size for the strings…why were these strings so incredibly thin and painful?

“Hold on, love. Let me show you how to play the chord.” Taesan positioned himself behind you, arms wrapping around you as one of his rough hands gently guided and pressed your left hand on the correct frets, the other one holding onto your hand with the pick, the callous on the first knuckle of his middle finger peeking past his other fingers as he guided your hand through the strumming patterns. “When you're strumming, you’ve got to take note of the strumming direction and coordi…” The way the muscles in his forearm flexed subtly as he strummed the guitar with you and…his…rolled up sleeves…veins in his arm…blahblahblah proper name, place name, back story stuff…

“Y/N, my love, you’re zoning out again.” Taesan planted a quick peck on your cheek as he leaned around to see what you were fixated on. You couldn’t help but flush an indescribable shade of red, feeling a little embarrassed from getting caught by Taesan. But you couldn’t help it, your boyfriend is one hell of an attractive man.

“You must really like my hands, huh? You keep staring at them when you zone out.”

“W-well, um, ANYWAY WHAT WERE YOU SAYING ABOUT THE STRUMMING PATTERN?” You tried to divert the topic back to whatever you were trying to do before, but it wasn’t long before you crashed out over the electric guitar and your dear boyfriend, Han Taesan, laughed at you while you basically threw a mini tantrum and ragequitted. Quite literally. You were so close to having the right pattern when you gave up and just strummed the guitar, albeit aggressively before calling it quits.

As you headed back to your shared apartment, the two of you decided to stop by the neighbourhood park for a walk. “So, how were my bass skills, Miss Y/N?” Taesan slipped his hands into yours and interlocked your fingers, hiding your hand from the harsh winter winds by placing it into his toasty, warm pocket. The two of you strolled down the leaf-covered path, crunching on the dried fallen leaves while the sounds of joyful children playing among the burnt orange patches echoed through the park.

“Trust me, your bass skills are more than fantastic. I genuinely thought you were coming for my hob for a split second.

“Gosh, you flatter me.”

“And you make envy your talent. How are you literally so good at everything you do? Sigh…when I said I wished to bag a baddie in high school, I didn’t literally mean one who could basically form an one-man band.”

“And I know you love me for that.” “Bingo.”

Giggles filled the air as you and Taesan talked about the little lesson you gave each other, and how you’d decorated the apartment when he holed himself up in the studio. Without realising, a gentle breeze flows through the park, fluttering around the trees and causing more leaves to slowly drift to the ground, an array of bronze and yellow-brown coloured leaves swirling around the two of you.

“Thanks for dragging me out of the production studio, love. If you didn’t, I might have just combusted and you would have to spend Christmas with a well-roasted boyfriend.” Taesan chuckled, gazing down at you with the same eyes you fell for all those years ago. “No problem, babe. You holing yourself up in there all day for the past few weeks worried me a lot.” You closed the space between the two of you to wrap him in a warm embrace. 

His eyes slowly looked down to your lips, breath getting shallower as he leaned in, sealing your lips with a kiss. It’s tender and gentle, full of love as one of Taesan’s hands cupped your cheek, the other hand resting on your waist while you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Heat flows throughout your body, leaving you feeling warm all over, and the smell of Taesan’s perfume, woody and cozy, engulfs you. As you slowly break away from his lips, Taesan gently strokes your cheek before tucking your flyaways behind your ear. 

It felt like the two of you were back in high school, hanging out with each other and playing in the snow when the weather got colder. Not to mention the stolen kisses during secret dates when the whole world didn’t know of your relationship yet, especially the ones in a snowy park like this. Your favourite memories, during your favourite season, with your favourite person in the whole world.

Well, “Christmas Mission: Drag Taesan out of his chair and teach him the bass” does seem to be a success!

The dizzying lights casting a glow over the entire venue might've altered your perception of things. Or maybe it was the stuff in your glass. But whatever it was, it got you brave. Brave enough to even think about talking to the boy across the room.

You turned to your friend,who was hunched over the counter, talking to the barista in front of her.

“Gi, I'll be a little, call me if I’m gone for too long” A small hum left your friend's throat in response.

You slipped through the crowd of bodies. A mix of sweat and alcohol hanging in the air. With each move you felt the boy's eyes following you, until you were finally in front of him.

“What's such a handsome young man like you doing all alone in here” You spoke, a little tipsy from the alcohol.

“Friends dragged me out.” He looked into your eyes, cheesing a little.

Time felt still, unmoving. Awkwardness threaded between you two. You were drunk, but not drunk enough. And he had absolutely no alcohol in his system, being the designated driver.

“Wanna get away from here?” You nodded, letting him guide you up to the balcony.

Conversations with the stranger, whose name you had found out was Riwoo flowed easily. He felt familiar, almost like home but there was something distant about him.

“So,” the man started. “Go on” You leaned your head onto his shoulder.

The view of Seoul from the rooftop was breathtaking. Lights swirled and glowed in beautiful tones and buildings ahead formed a pathway. Straight ahead was the full moon that decorated the sky's dark blue canvas.

“Would you mind giving me your-” A gasp interrupted Riwoo. “OH MY GOSH THERE YOU ARE” both your heads snapped towards the voice in sync. “Rei!” You yelled out “what are you doing here”

“searching for you??? I thought you got abducted or something” Riwoo's phone vibrated. "bruv where are you we're leaving"- jaehyun his screen glowed faintly.

“Uhh… sorry I gotta go, see you around?” He stammered out, backing away. “Yeah” you mumbled, looking down at the space between you two.
