Much to his chagrin, his attempt to settle the animosity is unsurprisingly rejected. He canât blame Rin for being so reserved at this point, considering thereâs been more wreckage done to their relationship than he cares to admit. There comes a point of no return. A breaking point. Len tells himself that it hasnât gotten that bad, with much uncertainty. Like his sister, though, he can only handle so much dismissal. Am I just wasting my breath?
âYour friends, huh?â Len repeats coldly and looks directly at Rin, expression abandoning any remnants of his previous laughter. âSure. They seem to be dying to talk to you.â He gestures indifferently to the otherwise empty room and eyes her cell phone, which is also silent.Â
âBut since weâre speaking between coworkers, itâs not my priority to make sure youâre alright. Not my problem, yâknow?â Without skipping a beat, he harshly snatches the water bottle he gave her and tightly constricts his hand around the plastic. It crackles in protest underneath the blondâs rough grip.Â
âBut if you see my sister, tell her Iâm sick of her shitty ass attitude.âÂ
Len, once again bubbling with rage, turns his back on Rin to simply get her out of his field of vision. Bringing his arm back, he forcefully hurls the half-consumed bottle against the wall closest to the trash can. It collides against the bricks with a loud smack and clatters to the ground. Before allowing the other to respond, he goes to silently collect the forgotten papers on the counter and heads for the door, with full intention to grade them after chain-smoking in the parking lot once more.Â
Though sheâs certain that his reaction wonât be a pleasant one the aggression she receives is completely unexpected and even though sheâs aware that her brother would never actually physically hurt her such a thought isnât enough to refrain her from jolting, recoiling away from him as her heart pounds in her ears when the smack of plastic meeting brick echoes throughout the room. So much for keeping this quiet and only between the two of them. She wouldnât be surprised if they both became the topic of discussion by the end of the week among all their other coworkers.Â
His insults only add more fuel to the ever-burning flame, chest constricting painfully at the comment on her popularity (or lack thereof) but she clenches her fists, nails digging into her palms; the sting caused by her action grounding her so that she doesnât do something stupid. Sheâs always had a rather horrible habit of acting before thinking things through and itâs something that has gotten her into trouble more times than could be counted. So this time she simply attempts to focus on her breathing so that the panic attack sheâd been fighting off before can, hopefully, remain at bay. In and out slowly.Â
Her eyes prick with tears once more but just like before, she refuses to let them surface, choosing instead to storm over to where her twin stands, huffing and before he can reach for the door she is blocking it, jutting her chin out in mock-bravery despite how her hands quiver in response to the onslaught of emotions that she is feeling. If he could just see things from her point of view for once then maybe-- just maybe-- thereâs a chance this whole family reunion plot that he seems to be uncharacteristically hopeful for can actually come to some sort of fruition.Â
âYOU DONâT HAVE A SISTER ANYMORE!âÂ
Her voice is shrill, cracking with emotion as the thin string of her composure finally snaps, tears blurring her vision as arms spread out-- a silent dare for him to try and brush past her before sheâs able to finish her part.
âWhat do you WANT from me, Len!? You want me to just pretend like nothing happened between us when we were a bunch of teenagers? Do you really expect me to just open my arms back up to you after all of the shit youâve put me through!?â He doesnât have a chance to reply because she is already quickly speaking again, breath hitching as her tone rises, âWhy canât you ever just think about how I fucking feel!? You apologized to me-- no, you said a simple, half-assed âsorryâ to me once and then you just expected me to coddle you like I always do and got angry when I didnât! You want for me to forgive you, Len? You want for the two of us to get back to how we used to be if itâs even possible!? Then why donât you grow the fuck up, man the fuck up, apologize to me like you actually mean it and then PROVE IT!âÂ
Chest rises and falls rapidly as she struggles to regain her breath, nerves going into overdrive as she turns so that she can open the door for him now, palm smacking against it so loudly that it reverberates yet she doesnât even wince from the pain of doing so.
âOr...â Her voice is softer, back to its average tone now as she continues while stepping aside to allow him space to exit should that be his decision and she doesnât even bother to shamefully scrub at the tears that keep falling, âOr you can just run away like youâve always done when things get too real for you. So whatâs it going to be?âÂ
