Lil art study of D1 and D2 Void
I know most ppl prefer the D1 version tbh but I love both- D1 Void is very magical and dreamlike feeling, it's a bit melancholy but alive and feels like the Void at its peak, and D2 Void imo sorta reflects the whole "the world is dying, nothing is certain, only traces of an ancient and unknowable power remain" kinda vibe

This is how I imagine dark vision looks on the other side.
In the first game, Corvo's mark glows an orange-yellow, and in the books, he describes the mark as a burning sensation. In Dishonored 2, Emily's mark glows blue, so I have a head cannon that it prickles on her skin like ice after she receives the mark. I like to think it is solidified by the fact that if you're in shadow form, people in the game comment on a chill in the air.
Idk I just thought it was cool.
A second follow up is dishonored I think remains one of my favourite series because of one specific aspect they manage to tackle with depictions of historical women and power.
It tackles a very real issues of female autonomy WITHOUT hamfistedly shoving in modern ideas from the mouths of people who frankly have no concept of these ideas as we know them. We stand on the shoulders of their individual struggles, but it's just that building blocks, and it seldom reflects the concepts as we know them today.
Dishonored, if I'm sure unintentionally, walked a line and succeeded in talking about the ideas often plaguing women past and present, but trusted its audience to understand why This Thing Is Bad, without shoving in concepts that don't fit and often feel cheap when done that way. (I'm looking at you, Reign).
I really love the angle of making Delilah Copperspoon the bastard heir to the throne that was shuffled to remove all threat to the ordained heir, beautiful pathos. Chefs kiss. It explains where she got The Audacity in a world dictated by class why she felt denied her birth right. Truly a wonderful understanding political intrigue.
But her initial plan did literally involve taking over the brain of a child, the same way she herself was consumed by politics, she sought to consume someone of their autonomy??? Like,,,, damn girl.
She was DISPOSSESSED of inheritance. AND INSTEAD DECIDED TO BE THE POSSESOR OF EMILY. She really took that shit literally.
Honestly, true sign of Euhorns bad grip on politics, do what everyone else does and set her up in a comfortable estate so your wife isn't (rightfully) mad and decides to start shit with a child (bad) causing your household to look uncontrolled to your nobility (causing further political instabability) (gives them someone to supplant your line with) (oh no why do we care about that? Exactly the reason you see in game *succession civil wars* which *take horrible toll especially on common people over simply the military class*) (when nobles fight amoungst themselves in this way, it's the poor who suffer mosttt)
Also just to be clear: Delilah isn't an under dog fighting for the lower classes, she's a noble wanting her noble right to do noble things. Her sense of entitlement literally extends to a child's body.
I love her, so, so, so much because she fits so well into this series and it's constant questioning of power, morality and who we become when left to our own devices.

Viktor Antonov, art designer of Dishonored 1 & 2, has passed.
His designs were fundamental to the world of Dishonored 1 & 2, he brought such a unique flare to the environments he designed that truly made them come alive in such a unique way. I personally was such a fan of his work on this series as one dear to my heart, let alone the series he is even more well known for, Half-Life 2. I cannot express enough how sad I am to hear of his passing. He had such a truly unique vision and style to his work that made him one of the greatest artists of this generation.
Thank you for your amazing work, Viktor, and all the best to his friends and family, please know his work was so deeply appreciated and adored!

Not have a mental flashback of this entire blog and everything about the series and restrain myself so physically to be like "yeah,,, I know,, a thing about this game,,, I guess,,, pretty neat huh???"
Sketches of Corvo and Daud by Jean-Luc Monnet, done while developing the tutorial images for Dishonored and its DLCs.
I worked a bit Corvo's silhouette, it's not the same exercise than pure concept art, this is illustration, not a communication tool, so I had to train and did a lot of sketches.
I had to draw those tutorials visuals, had fun, even if I was dealing with issues at drawing Daud correctly, it took me some time, while doing a lot of concepts for various things on the side. So here are [...] some researches.
There’s something to be said about the concept of family in the dishonored games. How the entire unraveling of an empire begins with the death of a mother. How Corvo had to leave his mother in Karnaca to serve the empire and never saw her again. How the person Emily might have been if not for the death of her mother is lost in an instant, stripping her of a fully actualized sense of self. How Billie sought strength in Daud after a life of abuse and, once this pillar of strength showed even a single sign of weakness, her faith wavered so severely she felt compelled to destroy this false idol. How Delilah’s claims to the throne sound less like the truth and more like the desperate prayers of a lonely little girl. How Emily’s parentage is questionable at best but Corvo’s love for her, regardless of whether he is truly her biological father, is what slowly heals a broken empire.
Anyway. Something to be said there.
