i reread my nakamura volumes n hv sm freshly vindicated thoughts i'd compile in one post but i'll just put this here

the divisive tentacle scene Was outta nowhere. not ooc tho. it happened v early aka when we haven't quite seen okuto's full characterization, n manga okuto —my potential gripe w the anime "moefying" him— is that he's a freak, an unreadable asocial Some Guy w vivid imagination. the mismatch + him believing his shit luck is punishment for hormonal thoughts is just the running engine

also. personal read backed up by his kinship w the misunderstood octopus + his general skew towards power: an inexperienced guy w his fav animal as visual metaphor for his intense, all-consuming crush is fine. it's less the creature feature n more him wanting to extend his presence, to see how far he can go, how much he can affect hirose, to be everywhere at once w/out actually sharing hirose w anyth else
