1. put on some Nina Simone (because her music soothes the soul and addresses the pain we feel but also speaks to the resilience of the human spirit…start with “Sinnerman” and go through all her upbeat tunes)

2. eat something sweet to take away the bitterness from your tongue (chocolate is my go to)

3. turn off upsetting news channels (because it’s only making you more depressed. you got all the news about yesterday there is to get. now turn your attention to your alternative media/activist community, and what the hell can be done to navigate these new, dangerous waters we find ourselves in)

4. give some hugs!! (to lower your blood pressure & stress, and in turn release some much needed endorphins and serotonin into your system. hugs also increase social connection and your sense of belonging, which is needed right now because if there’s one consolation here, it’s that we’re all in this shit together)

5. send a traumatized friend a supportive message (because even if you seem inconsolable right now, putting in the effort to make someone else feel better will make you feel a bit better too. deep down you KNOW that there is hope right?? because NOT ALL people are driven by ignorance and greed, and we just need to make sure that those voices are heard loud and clear!!!)
