grace's moment in the petrova line is so so good because it underscores a crucial aspect of the story: there are no bad guys. they could so easily make astrophage the bad guy: give it a minor leitmotif, make all the moments it appears tense and fearful. but instead they make it beautiful. the most profound, awe-filled moment of the film is him basking in astrophage. multiple characters in the book point out how, if not for the whole killing-the-sun thing, astrophage's energy-storage potential would make it the most incredible discovery in humanity's history. astrophage isn't evil, it's just life, doing what all life does.
