ZPM Makes History in Mizoram as K. Lalhmingliana Wins Rajya Sabha Seat
The ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has achieved a historic milestone in Mizoram after candidate K. Lalhmingliana secured victory in the state's lone Rajya Sabha election. With 26 votes out of 36 cast, he defeated Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate Jothansangi Hmar, who received 10 votes.
This marks the first time ZPM will have representation in the Rajya Sabha, strengthening the party's presence in national politics and giving Mizoram and Northeast issues a stronger voice in Parliament.
Four MLAs did not participate in the voting process, including two BJP legislators, one Congress MLA, and one member who was unable to vote due to health reasons.
The victory is being viewed as a significant boost for ZPM, reflecting the party's growing influence in Mizoram and opening the door for a larger role in national political discussions.
