When I was a teen, my folks took me to a wargaming convention and there was this booth for a smaller company called Zombiesmith. I loved the books and art for the Quar line, picked up some, the signed rulebooks, and sat on them for over a decade.
Now, with the recent Wargames Atlantic collaboration? Acquisition? Whatever, Quar is something I've seen around on the 'net recently. So, I've dug out my old Coftyrans and given them a modern coat of paint. Here's a Rhyfler

It's been a slow week. Slow couple of weeks even. Pushing to be in painting mode, but stupid build mode ideas keep on cropping up, and I know I'll just end up with things that take me 6 months to prime.
So here's some intentionally bad photography of poorly partially painted Quar. The intention was to get a couple of nice thin coats on the skin first, trying to do some inside-out kind of painting. Well, we had one crap thin coat and no motivation to go back and push out another layer. Feels like some general failures with painting at the moment, and attempted fixes just aren't sticking. Not even going to share some of the abominations until I can somehow recover them.
Maybe next week will be a better week. Or I'll just give in to my urges and bodge some plastic together, as I have really dumb ideas that don't want to get out of my brain.
Drunkenly staring at the Zombiesmith website thinking about how neat it would be to have some 15mm Quar armies, to go along with the 28mm Quar squads I have. Look at these tiny guys:
Little fellers, little fellers, little fellersβ¦.
Coftyran Cryfen LMG Rhyfler. It's quite nostalgic painting heavy metal minis again, which is largely why I'm doing "normal" bases instead of fancy 3d printed ones

So, gaps. They're a thing. A thing that bug me. I'd been waiting to sort out the gaps before priming, because I felt they'd be quite a pain to try and hide with paint.
Because I can't make decisions on how to do things, we have options! First one is plain old file-the-shit-down-one-glued. In theory, the least mess, but a bit too easy to end up with a horrible texture that'll be really obvious.
Next up, Milliput! I tried something a little different from last time; rather than squishing lumps in, I tried a bit of water to make a slightly runny cement. Application was fine, but I don't feel it cleaned up well.
Bleh, green stuff. After the Milliput experiments, I was a little hesitant to squish bits of green stuff in. I first ended up with massive lumps of it, then said fuck it to the lumps and took them off and tried to clean up what was left.
A bit more filling around and hope that the priming covers it. Half in grey, half in white should give me a good mix to play with for painting.
Well fuck, that white can's propellant is dead. I guess all grey.
It's not filler if I actually did something, right? Even if it wasn't much? We are in the times of evil atmospheric conditions, such environmental oppression prevents true progress in even the smallest of endeavours.
Look, I just hate the kind of weather occurring at time of writing.
Not much gets done. There's a pile of priming to do, as I have ideas and the rare thing of motivation, but the weather (and the day job) conspire to ruin me by the time I have time to do things.
It's my party, and I'll fucking whinge about the weather and blame it for me not doing things if I want to.
But hey, I did something. And it wasn't 5 minutes ago, so not even a rush job. I just wanted to tonk.
Yes, the tonk. Yes, I know using infantilising words can be annoying, but it's too cute a tank to be a tank. Just look how droopily mopey the driver gunner crew member is! I know it's a Tractor canonically, but it just, well, just screams tonk.
So it's now cleaned up and glued. I didn't get the time to do the second one, but I'll allow myself to prime and paint them one at a time. The turret will remain removable, but I haven't decided about the crew member yet; he'll be painted separately regardless because I'm not entirely a stupid masochist.
One of the squad leaders for the Coftyran Quar faction, and another of the old metal sculpts. They're all still out there for sale by the original creators in case anyone didn't know
Thankfully the examples on their site are painted, and I wanted to stick as close as I could to source material, mainly for nostalgia reasons
