Today I learned that in 2013, the local organization responsible for exercising the copyrights and paying royalties to artists blew over a million dollars (4,6 million złotych) on this 19th century manor in Janowice, despite the negative recommendations of the organization's auditors and much to the annoyance of the people paying for the licenses to play copyrighted music in public places.
Which is why I have a very reasonable and justified distaste for copyright organizations all over the world, because when it comes to actually doing anything, they're all on the same kind of bullshit. The artists get jack shit, people are being sued over nothing, and the only ones who profit are the corporations. You know, copygrift.
And I learned this only because lately, after twelve years of being unable to convert the manor into a creative retreat for artists, the organization finally offloaded it to a private company in the construction industry.
