World Mankousheh Day - 2018
November 2nd is a date that will forever be our favourite! On this day we claimed rights to a nation-wide celebration of our culinary heritage, the Mankousheh. Last year we kicked off the first epic celebration and this year marks our second year of a blazing hot World Mankousheh Day celebration that swept the country.
Just as the Mankousheh is best enjoyed shared, we want to share the celebration! That’s why we are committed to our annual Mankousheh distribution all over the streets of our beloved city, Beirut. We pushed it up a notch this year and distributed 6000 more, a total of 9000 Manakeesh.
And when we say celebration, we mean business. We also launched a petition to be signed by as many Maknousheh lovers as possible to declare World Mankousheh Day an official holiday. We even went all the way to the Presidential palace!
Beirut, our capital, is a city that appreciates urban art and local cuisine. In honor of WMD we bridged the two together to devote a graffiti mural art piece celebrating the Mankousheh in collaboration with T. Durden. Be sure to catch it on Alfred Naccache street, Ashrafieh!
From all of us here at Zaatar w Zeit we hope you had a warm and happy WMD. We want the world to know the Mankousheh is made, loved and celebrated in Lebanon. Here’s to looking forward to next year!
