My redesign for Darumi a few years after moving to the Artificial Sphere with the rest of the YTTD polycule*.
I was trying to avoid my most hated trope: Character becoming an adult means all the joy and whimsy gets leeched from their bloodstreams. To be honest, I didn't put a ton of thought into this, but I'm ultimately happy with the result.
My favorite parts of this design are: things that Darumi stole from Tsubasa's closet, T-Clamp choker, and Necktie instead of a bowtie to meaninglessly signify towards formality. It doesn't read well from this angle, but she also has an undercut
My favorite detail: little eyeglasses. In my headcanon, she's always had bad vision but has literally never had an opportunity to get prescription glasses. For a kid to own glasses, it implies a basic level of care and concern for a their needs that Darumi never got.
It takes embarrassingly long for the polycule to realize she's nearsighted. It's not like they'd ever trust her to do anything like drive, so she hadn't taken an eye exam. Takumi is the one to realize while watching Darumi getting up from the couch and walking across the living room to read the chores chart that he hung up on the inside of the front door a while ago. He was sure he wrote big enough to be legible from anywhere in the room, to make it easy to check just by peeking your head in.
After he takes Darumi to get an eye exam, in a very Takumi way, he insists on buying a boring, plain pair of glasses despite her protests. Regardless, Darumi wears them all the time, taking precious care of them.
*Yes, I'm calling them the YTTD polycule because of their names (Yugamu Takumi Tsubasa Darumi) make that acronym, it makes the name of the ship not a literal spoiler, and I think Darumi would enjoy that their ship name refers to another visual novel with a killing game in it.
