The answer feature on the friendship question wasn’t nearly long enough to include all of my favorite canonical sports anime friendships, so I figured I’d submit some of my favorite crossover friendship headcanons instead.
Kuga Kyousuke & Manami Sangaku: They both love the feeling of being free and the wind in their hair. I headcanon that they met one day when they were both out cycling/running on the same mountain (or maybe Kyousuke was riding his motorcycle that day), and they immediately recognized the other as a kindred spirit. Much to the horror of the rest of Hakogaku, Kyousuke lets Manami ride on the back of his motorcycle sometimes.
Kinjou Shingo & Kiyoshi Teppei: They met when they were both in physical therapy for their respective knee injuries. They’re both very proud of and protective of their respective teams, and they’re happy to have met someone who will listen to all of the stories/memories they want to share without complaint (and look at the team photos you know both of them keep).
Midorima Shintarou & Sugawara Koushi: Midorima wanting to be a doctor is at least fanon if not canon; I imagine him ultimately ending up in emergency medicine. I also headcanon Suga becoming a pediatrician. They first meet in the ER when Midorima is just beginning his residency and pages Pediatrics. Midorima’s completely at his wits end when the pediatrician walks in, and the stuffed animals falling out of the his pockets and attached to his stethoscope don’t give Midorima the best first impression, but then the he calms down the frantic parents and gets the child to stop crying within the minute, and Midorima is won over.
Kozume Kenma & Kuroko Tetsuya: They’re both the quiet ones on the team who can see exactly where the ball needs to go and then make it happen. They meet one day on the train when Kuroko sits down next to Kenma and is surprised when Kenma actually notices him. Kuroko likes drinking vanilla shakes while watching Kenma play video games; Kenma likes that Kuroko doesn’t always feel the need to talk. Between Kuroko’s tendency to go invisible and Kenma’s general dislike of conversation, it’s a lot longer before anyone else realizes that they’re friends.
Oikawa Tooru & Toudou Jinpachi: Yes, they’re both the pretty boy of their respective series, but they also both are scarily focused/competitive when under pressure. When they meet up, they can go from shopping and trading fashion advice to intense battles at the arcade remarkably quickly (the respective sizes of their fan clubs is also a recurring source of pride/contention between them).
Since MuraHimu's done (yay!), can I request MidoTaka for the meme?
aidenstillhere said: ☼ + midotaka! please
who would be the one to randomly adopt a puppy without consultation No, but if Takao could stop petting that stray black cat in front of their school gate, that would be really fantastic. *anxiously clutches lucky item while pretending to not anxiously clutch lucky item*
who would force the other to take aesthetic pictures of them No, but Takao has an entire instagram devoted solely to candid shots of Midorima being his spectacularly odd-duck self. He considers it a personal challenge to get the best shots even at the risk of life and limb – including, but not limited to, Shin-chan meticulously arranging a full-size Golbanian Families doll house, Shin-chan arguing with a Magic 8 Ball, and Shin-chan’s truly impressive collection of utterly ridiculous novelty boxers. (It is somewhat alarming how often Oha Asa elects novelty boxers as a lucky item for Cancers.)
who would do stuff they think is stupid just to make the other one happy Takao is pretty much doing that already, and on a near-constant basis, isn’t he. XD
who picks out the horror movies to watch just so the other will cling to them Watching horror movies with Midorima means having a giant astrology nerd explain to you in detail why curses don’t work that way and how these people aren’t even capable of putting up the correct ofuda to ward off a vengeful vampire ghost mermaid and this creature is so obviously fake and a poorly researched approximation of a bakemono Takao your taste in movies keeps getting worse every time how has your brain not shrunk to the size of a walnut and rolled out your ears yet no da yo–!!!
(Takao just snickers quietly to himself because Midorima’s mounting agitation is directly proportional to how likely he’ll be to take his lucky item to the bathroom with him for the next few nights.)
who is constantly studying and who is constantly trying to distract them You might think it’s Takao, and it is, but only when med student Midorima is dead-set on doing stupid things in the name of scholarly effort, like reading until he can’t look out his eyes without squinting like an owl or something. His distraction method of choice involves obnoxiously singing the “Skeleton Dance” song and replacing the lyrics with “the thigh bone’s connected to the trombone” until Midorima three-pointers the text books at his head.
who initiates the facetime calls whenever they’re separated Oh, no. XD Midorima is far too embarrassed and Takao is super-casual with communication, anyway. As in, he sends random texts whenever the fancy strikes him, and doesn’t know that Midorima reads each one carefully before consigning it to the trash. And if Midorima has any say in this, things will stay that way, nanodayo.
who is more likely to storm out after a fight and who is more likely to cry when they do Midorima, kind of, because Midorima’s prickliness hides a very delicate personality that gets easily hurt/offended. He doesn’t “storm” out, though – he just gets up, declares that he is done having this conversation, and then stalks out the door. By the time he gets home, he’s mad and hurt and mortified over how things went down, and a combination of stubborn pride and terrible social skills finds him up at 2 a.m., googling how to apologize without making an even bigger fool of himself.
Takao, meanwhile, has the altogether healthier reaction of getting mad, simmering down, saying sorry if it was his fault, and eventually considering the falling-out water under the bridge.
He sometimes has a hard time understanding that Midorima doesn’t compartmentalize arguments that easily, and might bring up an issue Takao considers resolved three or four times afterwards, very often out of the blue. It takes him a while to realize Midorima isn’t trying to be an ass, he’s just not used to the idea that friendships, nevermind relationships, are meant to weather this kind of drama, and is trying to figure out if things really are back to normal in a way that makes it seem like he can’t let things go.
Eh, they’ll work it out eventually.
who stays up way too late binge-watching their favorite shows Not necessarily late, but Takao is fully prepared to spend Saturday mornings marathoning sentai shows and he totally watches every iteration of Yu-Gi-Oh! too, trading card nerd that he is.
who bites the other’s ear when they’re feeling frisky No, but Takao sticks his tongue in Midorima’s ear and poor Midorima scramble-trips off the couch every time because who even does that this is unsanitary Takao you freak what’s the meaning of this no da yo?!?!?! *claps hand to ear and turns the color of shiroku*
(Thing is, he knows exactly what it means, which accounts for at least 75% of his flailing. Takao just cackles at him from atop the sofa, never above cockblocking himself for the sake of Midorima flushing and yelling.)
who sprays the other with water when they’re washing the car Are you kidding me of course it’s Takao, and it’s not sexy at all because of course he aims the hose too high so Midorima is sputtering and trying to squint out of his wet glasses and even half-blind, Takao still catches the dirty sponge square in the face.
who has more fun decorating the house during holidays Nah, they’re not huge decorators. Midorima will tidy up the house shrine for Obon because it’s tradition, but beyond that, they don’t do much. Takao will sometimes put up horribly garish American Christmas decor for the lulz, and Midorima is convinced he can pin the blame for that on Kagami but the thing is, he’s dead wrong and the supplier was actually Himuro.
who is more likely to give the silent treatment when they’re mad at the other Oh man, of course it’s Midorima. Half the time it’s because he genuinely wants to demonstrate how mad he is, the other half he’s just being awkward and embarrassed to death over how the argument went down. Takao just keeps talking over him as if he’s actually a participant in the conversation until Midorima caves and starts using words again.
who plays with the others’ hair more Their kid sisters! Try to tell me they aren’t good big brothers who will patiently sit through their little sisters’ “I’m a master hairdresser and that means putting every sparkly hair pin and glittery ribbon I own on my obliging big brother who cannot deny the power of my puppy eyes” whims.
One time they even started it on a play date and their brothers were more or less frozen, just staring at each other as they got more and more glitter-fied with identical “the things we do for love” expressions on their faces. Well, at least until Takao gave a snerk at Midorima’s newly acquired mini-ponytails, went, “Nice, Shin-chan” and promptly snapped a picture to add to his instagram – and Midorima couldn’t even try to murder him because of the presence of two innocent eight-year-olds. Or, well, one innocent eight-year-old and one miniature demi-fiend in training.
who is more likely to climb all over the other one when they’re boredTakao’s respect for Midorima’s personal space is directly proportional to how serious Shin-chan is about playing the “I’m not paying any attention to you” game.
(Note: The “I’m not paying any attention to you” game has nothing to do with genuinely not paying attention and everything to do with Midorima being an awkward tsundere who sucks at initiating pretty much anything.)
who tries to kiss the other as often as they can They’re actually not super-duper touchy, despite all of Takao’s antics. PDA makes Midorima uncomfortable – he’s bad with spontaneous gestures anyway, and in public to boot? yeah, no – and Takao tends to reserve serious shows of affection for when they’re alone together. Horsing around, though? Always fair game.
who pouts when the other one tells them to shut the fuck upTakao doesn’t pout. Takao just keeps talking very loudly and enthusiastically (or singing, or cackling) because it’s funny how Midorima thinks he’s the boss of him.
who initiates the sex and who walks away when the other is riled up Nah. Once they get more comfortable with each other, they might propose leaving the other hanging midway, but it’s really all just snark and teasing.
( “Stop sticking your tongue in my ear or you can finish things by yourself no da yo!” – “Oh reeeeally? What are you gonna do, Shin-chan? Get up, walk down the hallway with that tent and take care of things in the family bathroom~~?” *gringrin* *sputtering*)
who always forgets the umbrella and who holds it when they actually have one Midorima never forgets. He probably keeps an umbrella on his person even when the forecast is clear skies all around, just in case. It comes with doing everything humanly possible.
Takao sometimes forgets and then shoves his way under Midorima’s umbrella like, here, Shin-chan, let’s share like the good friends we are I’ll even carry your giant magikarp plush for you so it won’t get wet~~, entirely oblivious to the fact that he’s giving Midorima heart palpitations.
who demands showering first in the morningsMidorima doesn’t have to demand it; he’s usually up at the crack of dawn anyway, while Takao will laze around in bed for as long as possible.
who sneaks into the shower with the other one in the morningsNo. Just… no. Takao might consider it but Midorima deals so very poorly with surprises of any kind, and besides, for the truly intimate things, he always asks.
who prefers riding the roller coasters and who prefers playing the gamesI think it’s pretty obvious who wants to do what. XD Actually, Takao is happy to do either, but Midorima is definitely a games person. He doesn’t see any point in purposefully risking imbalance, nausea, vomiting, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, heart attack, whiplash––
(“Wow, Shin-chan, you’re a real sunshine,” Takao says, and skips off to the death coaster by himself. If Shin-chan doesn’t see the fun in speed-induced vertigo, then it’s his loss~)
who will text the other one thirty times in a row until they respond Nah. Midorima’s not a huge texter and while Takao sends random texts all the time, he very rarely expects a response to them. It’s just part of his personality.
who always forgets to charge their phone overnight Neither? Midorima is nothing if not overly fastidious in his habits and self-imposed duties, and Takao is too much of a social butterfly to ever forget.
who comes up behind the other and slide their hands into their back pocketsStiiiiill don’t know how that works. Takao’s more likely to do the one-armed sling around Midorima’s neck to pull him down to eye-level anyway. What happens after that depends on the mood~
who tries to get hugs from the other as often as they canNah. Like I said, neither of them is super-touchy despite Takao’s outgoing personality. Full-on hugs are more for when one or the other is having a really crappy day.
who is louder and who constantly has the tell the other to be quiet *raised eyebrow* I think we all know the answer to that.
Could I request X and Z for the meme? And *hugs* for the awful week/day.
*hugs back* Thank you! If you’d like, please give me a prompt for “Z”, I’m awful at unprompted random talk. orz
X - top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM
This meme is rather obsessed with me dying. XD Let’s just say I will very stalwartly protect (and possibly fantasize about feeding milk and cookies to) the following characters on my own turf (aka this blog):
Kuroko Tetsuya & Kagami Taiga(These sweethearts deserve all the happiness in the world. They’ve been through so much.)
Shinji Ikari(I don’t have to explain this one, do I. someone reincarnate his angel boyfriend, stat)
Cloud Strife(A friend of mine refers to FFVII as “the tragedy of a boy who got everything he ever wanted”. Which, yeah, that’s Cloud’s life. Squeenix, just let the guy be happy breeding chocobos somewhere on an island or something. He deserves a break.)
Nanase Haruka(let’s just say I have beef with Eternal Summer >.>)
Rise Kujikawa, Kanji Tatsumi, Naoto Shirogane, Yosuke Hanamura and pretty much the whole P4 cast with the exception of Adachi because seriously, fuck that guy. XD
More or less the whole ensemble of kids from Sokyuu no Fafner.
...plus a whole bunch of others for whose health and happiness I constantly fret (in canon or outside of it) but who tend to go through life running some version of OS Murderation and are thus a bit hard to approach. XD
I had a hard time deciding, so if it's not too much, could I request C, I, L (or R or S), and U for MuraHimu?
Cuddle (Are they cuddly people? How do they like to hug/ be hugged?)Neither would describe themselves as such, but Mukkun is absolutely the type who will flop on or otherwise invade Himuro’s space on a whim.
Sometimes he’ll make an effort to dress it up as “I’m tired/hungry/didn’t even see you there”, but the truth is, he really just wants attention. Once he likes someone, he has very little concept of TPO, so Yosen frequently get treated to Murasakibara standing behind Himuro and treating him like a head/chin rest, and Himuro doesn’t even blink, he just keeps carrying on whatever he was doing before he got flopped on by nearly 100 kg of tree sloth.
(“You do realize you’ve got… a thing… on your back,” says Liu as they’re going over class work together. – “It happens,” says Himuro, perfectly unconcerned by the looks they’re getting and the fact that Atsushi seems close to falling asleep like that. “Usually means there’ll be rain tomorrow.”)
Ice cream (What’s their favorite flavor/ dessert–if they seem like the type to not like ice cream?)
Mukkun has made it his life’s mission to try every ice cream flavor in existence, up to and including sweet potato or squid ink. Expect to see him with tokudai-sized cones, too, because one flavor just isn’t enough. Where he absolutely does draw the line, though, is ice cream involving vegetables. That’s… he’s not sure what that is. A crime against nature or someth–– Murochin what are you eating???!
(“Oh, I thought I’d try carrot. I’ve never had it before.” – “Murochin you are dead to me. D:”)
As for Himuro, he’s, perhaps unsurprisingly, one for the more elegant flavors, like stracciatella or amarena cherry, but since returning to Japan, he’s become enamored with azuki bean ice cream. Mmm.
(Incidentally, activities in the ice cream store tend to come to a dead halt whenever Himuro takes his order and gives it a taste-test. What a shock, ne?)
Love (How do they show love physically, verbally, etc.?)
Well, Himuro is quite free in his doting, but kind of reserved when it comes to romantic affection. He’s not at all averse to showing it, but his expressions of love are usually very low-key and subtle – a brush of fingers here, a lingering look there, a certain pitch in his voice. He’s more likely to wait for Atsushi to initiate something first (see: tree sloth, above) and respond to that rather than the other way around.
Murasakibara… gosh. If he offers you the last slice of angel cake you know it’s true love. XD In all seriousness, though, Mukkun is pretty clumsy with that sort of thing and gets embarrassed very easily, which translates to grumpiness and a lot of backwards compliments like, “Murochin is so pretty it’s annoying.”
Also, in addition to his random sloth attacks, from time to time, he’ll seize upon certain things about Himuro and will then poke and prod at them with a bizarrely single-minded kind of fascination. This has included – but not been limited to – snorgling Himuro’s hair because “it looks like licorice……. but it’s not licorice D:”, trying to lick him because Himuro made the mistake of using coconut oil (dry skin, even ikemen have that problem), staring at Himuro’s feet for ten minutes straight before going, “Murochin, did you know your left big toe is slightly taller than your right big toe?”, or trying to rest his ear on Himuro’s stomach because he wants to figure out if ikemen stomachs also make noises.
Himuro isn’t quite sure what to make of it all, but it’s so weird that it’s actually kind of cute, so he usually doesn’t intervene… unless Atsushi starts gnawing at his neck or something. (Yes, it’s happened before, and no, nobody knows what prompted Mukkun to do it, not even Mukkun himself. “I was distracted,” he says, like that explains everything. Himuro has been around him long enough by then to know it probably does.)
Understand (some misconception that they want others to understand about them)
Uh, nothing comes to mind here, tbh. I don’t think Murasakibara has ever seriously thought about getting other people to understand him (not that he thinks too deeply about stuff like that in the first place), and Himuro… well, Himuro’s got plenty of things on his mind, but not all of them are for sharing, so… yeah. Nothing to say here, sorry. XD

Could I request MuraHimu for the meme? I'm looking forward to reading all of these.
starts the coffee or tea in the morningHimuro is only half-human without his first cup of coffee. Seriously, you think Murasakibara is bad? Wait till you see Himuro’s early morning bitchface. Practice at 6:30 is no kinder to ikemen than it is to the rest of the planet.
leaves socks or other random clothing items laying aroundMukkun has definitely shoved his discarded clothes into a pile, thrown a blanket over them and honestly expected Himuro to agree with him that his dorm is now all clean. Despite his terminal laziness, however, he’s a pro at operating the washer/dryer at the laundromat, and reads the labels like a hawk. When Himuro remarks upon it, his only answer is a pained face.(Let’s just say Murasakibara’s first attempt at living away from home ended with him shrinking his entire wardrobe because he thought “hot wash” means it’ll come out extra clean. You try being over 2 m tall and finding new pants on the fly. It was awful, Murochin, stop making me remember. D:)
takes long baths (or the longest, if both do)Himuro is a shower person. Murasakibara secretly loves baths but so very rarely gets to take them because Japan has a critical shortage of tubs large enough to contain him. One time Yosen hosted a training week at a hot spring and he kept floating up and down the length of the outdoor pool like a little kid. And then he got hungry and couldn’t decide whether to get out of the pool to take care of the munchies or not. The whole team was very concerned.
stays up late working on somethingHimuro, of course. At some point past midnight Murasakibara will pad in with a plate of snacks because he got woken up by his stomach again. He stands around munching and occasionally shoving the food in Himuro’s face to get him to take a bite, too, and grumbling under his breath about how stupid Murochin should finish up already his feet are getting cold, mouuuu.
has better fashion senseLike that’s even a question. XD
reads moreWell, Himuro isn’t a voracious reader or anything, but yeah, he takes that spot. Murasakibara gets sleepy from staring at the pages, unless the book in question is a cook book. Then he just gets hungry instead and decides to go make whatever it was that triggered his appetite, even if the dish is far above his current skill level and it’s the middle of July, Atsushi, why are you trying to make Christmas cake?
works out moreHimuro. That’s not even a contest.
sleeps in on weekendsBoth. Mukkun likes to nap at all hours of the day anyway, but Sunday is amnesty day from Murochin’s rampant unjustified cruelty. (Murochin’s rampant unjustified cruelty consists of leaning in really close and whispering sweetly that if Atsushi isn’t up in the next five minutes, his chips will have a date with their interior plumbing.)Sunday is also the day Himuro considers it too much effort to extricate himself from the human tree sloth hug that’s keeping him flat against the mattress, so he just gives in and goes back to sleep. They wake up properly around lunch, but Mukkun refuses to call it lunch because breakfast is clearly so much better than lunch, Murochin I want waffles~.
introduced the other to their parents firstWell, according to the drama CD, Mukkun’s family already got introduced to Himuro and promptly caught the ikemen fever? XD Seriously though, I have no idea. I think a proper introduction will be a long time in coming, not only because Murasakibara needs to do a bit of growing up, first, but also because neither he nor Himuro seem like the type to make anything “official”.
is more protectiveNeither of them is especially protective, actually. Sure, Himuro has practically adopted this ill-tempered giant child of a boy, but I think that’s more because he himself has got a compulsive need to establish himself as the responsible elder than out of some kind of desire to protect. I’m not saying he doesn’t care – he pretty obviously does, but his motivations for befriending and taking care of Murasakibara are a lot more complex than that. And Mukkun, well... I think Mukkun has trouble conceiving of other people’s vulnerabilities, in general. And Himuro in particular isn’t just a capable person, but also projects that aura of strength, so... if something actually happens to shake him up, I’m pretty sure Mukkun wouldn’t really know what to do and just awkwardly offer to crush the thing that made Murochin unhappy.
is more likely to flirt when they’re alone*snerk* I’m pretty sure Himuro actually bringing on the flirt game would just confuse the hell out of Murasakibara, who is the type of person who can’t even pay a straight-up compliment without phrasing it like, “Murochin is so pretty it’s annoying.” So yeah.
falls asleep on the couchPfff. Mukkun falls asleep on the couch so often Himuro has chosen to buy one of those reclining beanbags and put it up in front of the couch so he can watch his movie without freezing his butt off sitting on the floor and Atsushi can have his nap without getting a crick in the neck.
is the better driver Himuro, of course. Murasakibara just flat-out refuses to drive. It’s too much of a hassle, having to pay attention to all these things at once, and then there’s the question of how he can even fit behind the wheel and operate the pedals. He’d much rather take up the passenger seat, push it as far back as possible, and then doze while Murochin mangles the lyrics to whatever is playing on the radio.
plans date night most often God, no. If they go out, it’s most definitely just casual outings, or to meet with friends.
prefers stay-in dates If by stay-in dates you mean “turn the kitchen into a mess trying to bake and then argue about food safety and why eating raw dough is bad and in the end mean sneaky Murochin makes off with the lemon meringue”...
To the anon asking about submitting crossover quotes: there's a sports anime crossover incorrect quotes Tumblr! It won't let me include the link here, but it's when-sports-dorks-collide
If you're still taking requests for the meme, could I ask for Akashi as well? Suddenly I'm in the mood for a less fluffy/more angst-ridden character.
Hoo boy, something tells me I’ll get in trouble with the fandom for that one. XD
Akashi
Sexuality Headcanon: Ace, but not aromantic. And no, this has absolutely nothing to do with Akashi’s childhood; he simply strikes me as the type of person to be attracted to pure mentality. The more contrary and incomprehensible the pure mentality, the more exciting it is for him.
Gender Headcanon: male
A ship I have with said character: MayuAka. I swear it started out as a joke ship, but now I derive actual joy from imagining those two hissing at each other like a bunch of wet cats. Well, no. Mayu is the wet cat. Akashi is the dry cat who set off a Rube-Goldberg machine that landed the other cat in the bathtub.
A BROTP I have with said character: Uuh, I think Akashi has difficulties grasping some of the basic properties of friendship to begin with. He’ll need some ridiculously patient people to help him work on that.
A NOTP I have with said character: AkaKuro and AkaFuri. The former I don’t like, the latter I don’t get. XD But to each their own, ne?
A random headcanon: Akashi has a hard time carrying on a natural conversation or a casual encounter, especially if it’s just him and one other person. He begins to make sincere efforts to relate to others as peers after the Winter Cup, but has the unfortunate tendency to approach the entire thing like an anthropological study.
Imo, the little skit where he goes out of his way to read one of Mayuzumi’s light novels, based on Mayu’s assbackwards passive-aggressive “recommendation,” perfectly encapsulates his modus operandi when trying to make friends: Gather information (preferably straight from the source), process the information, and then use the information to establish a connection, which of course promptly fails to launch and self-destructs at the same time because “I have looked into this thing in which you have professed an interest and I found the experience fascinating” is not a good conversation starter.
General Opinion over said character: I’m highly ambivalent towards Akashi, partially due to things not related directly to Akashi himself. On the one hand, I understand and empathize with his situation at home. On the other hand, the methods he’s found to deal with the pressure – both subconsciously and consciously – are really fucked up and hurt a lot of people, and I’m not sure Akashi realizes the full implications of that yet.
Unfortunately, a lot of fandom – and even Fujimaki himself, it seems (Extra Game wtffff?) – seem to treat his problems like a super-power, or paint the events at Teikou and the WC as beyond the “real” Akashi’s control. This kind of copout rubs me the wrong way, personally – I’d much rather that characters own their bad behavior and problems, and work to change, rather than the magical healing/absolution combo that happened here.
