Freckles
I tried to count your freckles one evening with my cheek against the cotton sheets and eyes trailing your arm.
It was like counting the stars in constellations that cover the night sky, sharp and clear in the crisp snowy air and blurred in the humid summer breeze; permanent in the dark blue blanket above us.
Stars clustered into constellations with names I can never place.
Wandering to your neck and jaw was like spiraling in a field of those stars on an evening that held promise and memories.
The cascade of freckles on your body begging to be traced, discovered…kissed.
Brushed with lips and fingertips.
