Love anxiously subsides

The moon casts out the light blue of ocean tides

A place where young lovers took their deep ride

And all that was left of them was faint memories

When both left to the other side

Life is never worth it when promises are denied

Things in a lover’s life can change

On that day of heartbreak

The ocean took them both away

By the outgoing tide

The nightshade grew

And a suffering ghost followed you

Don’t eat those things

Because your heart is too blue

But you ate them anyway

And you put that blue on your family

For five generations

They would never be free

Of your oppressive blue misery

As the city’s pollution begins it’s thick hazes

Dogs bark but nothing fazes the sniffing rats who linger on

Obscenities are yelled from open windows

As a resident talks loudly on her phone

A cat meows for a taste of butter

Ten feet down below in trash and clutter

The cat thinks the butter smells good as any other

Until a chihuahua snatches it away

The hungry cat screams his war cry

That chihuahua will surely die

And as the cat pounces

The chihuahua raises his back leg

And urinates in the cat’s surprised eyes

Underneath the summer sun

When we hold hands together

And walk as if we are one

May the flowers wave in the meadows

To the rhythm of the breeze

And cast our love to heaven

With our sweet love vibrations rattling the chestnut trees

But love me true

No more gaslighting to turn me blue

Wear a real smile

At least do try

And I will attempt to love you again

After my anger passes by

Those nights we paced around

Only to hear the horrific muffled sounds

Of weeping voices on battle grounds

Where shattered moving shrapnel rang

In the distance a musically trained soldier sang

And all along the trench line

The soldier’s voice kept on

Past the inner trenches

And the twisted uniforms filled with human bones

In the muddy water beneath us when we drifted off half asleep

We asked the Lord our souls to keep

Laying down when the artillery came

Where the earth rose up twenty feet high

It buried breathing soldiers below the fiery skies

There were ones who did live

And there were ones who died

Who lay in deep mud

Despite their honored pride

The morning sun arose in violent red

And pushed the grey artillery smoke along the field of dead

It was remembered much

But at home nothing was said

There was too much misery of memories for us—the walking dead
