A Young War Siblings' Christmas
Athena (resting peacefully)
Ares (bursts into her room before pouncing)
Athena (no longer resting peacefully)
Ares (excitedly): Get up, Ath!
Athena (rubbing her eyes): What's happening?
Ares: Aunt Demeter helped me make you an owl brooch. (Pins it on her sleeve)
Athena (starting to smile): Thanks.
Ares: She said we shouldn't spar until after Christmas dinner, so hurry. The faster we do everything, the sooner we can fight in the snow!
(Ares half-drags Athena out of bed and hurries out to the main part of the palace. They approach a box with Ares's name on it. He opens it up and finds a sweater with a dog knitted onto the front.)
Athena: I made that for you. (Puts it over Ares's head)
Ares (beaming): I love it! (Deviously) Now that I'll be even warmer, I'll really gonna win in the snow later.
Athena (playfully): That's what you think. I'll just turn into a snowy owl and outlast you.
Ares (gasps in horror at the thought)
(They lightly squabble until it's time for dinner. Three helpings of Aunt Hestia's food later, Ares and Athena are almost passed out on the floor.)
Ares (sleepily): I think I wanna fight tomorrow.
Athena (just as tired): Do you forfeit?
Ares: No! I just...do you want to fight right now?
Athena:...you said you didn't first. I could roll you outside.
Athena (mischievously): Well, I don't know. I was really feeling like I'd win.
Ares (puppy eyes): Not even in the spirit of Christmas?
Athena (pretending to think over it more): I guess I could agree to that just this one time.
Ares (thoroughly relieved)
Athena (grinning): Merry Christmas, Ares.
Ares (grinning too): Merry Christmas, Athena.
