Another thing that I remembered later is that there's the problem of who will do the baptism. My family has this tradition (my dad's side of the family is huge on tradition) where the grandfather does the baptism. This obviously only works if there is a grandfather who is a priest, since we're Anglican. My brothers were all baptized by my paternal grandfather, and I think my nieces and nephew were all baptized by my father.
But see, I wasn't baptized by my grandfather, I was baptized by the priest of the church Dad was curate of at the time. So I already don't fit the tradition.
And I want my children baptized by our priest, because he's the one who will prepare them for first Communion and for Catechism and everything else, and because he's a friend.
I don't know how to tell my father that he can't baptize his grandchild.
It was easy when I got married, I had my uncle do the ceremony and Dad gave me away and preached, and my uncle could pull rank since we got married in the Cathedral of the diocese he was bishop in at the time (he's since retired). But this is harder.
But I think I can discuss this one with my mom because while she understands all of these family traditions that are on his side of the family, she does think that some of them are given way more importance than they should, and that sometimes the family emphasizes the traditions and the heirlooms over the people.
Another tradition I refuse to take part in is the family baptismal gown. I want my own for my family. My husband's family doesn't have something like that. I want to make one for my baby to wear at the christening, and I want it to be a family heirloom thing that goes with my family. Which I think I can justify since I have a different last name now and all that. But I will talk about that one with my mom as well. She's a lot easier to talk about this stuff with than anyone else in the family. She usually understands where I'm coming from with stuff like this.

FFS. I think I know exactly which one they're confused about.
And... it's not that The Vest isn't useful for that. But it's decidedly *not* what it's for, and nobody could ever get insurance to cover one for that reason.
Rat Wizards
(Young Wizards headcanon)
Since rats have such a short adolescent period - rat wizards get used to using a lot of subtlety and doing important things with very little raw power.
They are also big on collaborative workings and orally passing down spells through dozens of generations. There are rat wizards that prefer to work alone and do most of their workings solitary - turning directly to the Heart of the World for their information. But they are unusual.
Rat wizards can also directly feel, taste, and smell strings and other subtle forces. Cat wizards (when trained) may be able to taste when a gate string is "sick" but rat wizards could tell you what kind of sick. In fact, when he grew up, Ahru has a meeting with one such wizard. And Sees's'rou is teaching him some of the fine points of that art now. :)
