so, i went to a cool camp this past week!
i had the honor of attending the florida youth leadership forum, which is a leadership camp for disabled kids!
i was really nervous because i didn’t know anyone… but now i have 30 new besties :)
this week, i learned self advocacy, disability law/history, leadership, planning for disabled adulthood, and some asl!
in addition, i have been inspired this week to become a disability rights lawyer since i saw a lot of accessibility at the florida state campus especially for my friends who use wheelchairs.
we also got to learn self-advocacy from a ylf alumna who is in law school right now to become a disability rights lawyer so that’s cool!
we also drafted bills in each of our groups and our group chose to propose accessibility auditing committees for public spaces :)
I also got the joey award (which all ylfs across the country give out) for being an exceptional leader and advocating for others
but the best part… was learning more about different disabilities and interacting with the disability community face to face for the first time :)
i hope that i get picked to return as staff next year because i literally did not want to leave (i was crying a lot Saturday morning lol)
if this is something of interest to you and you are a teen/young adult (Florida’s delegate ages are 15-21 but i think it varies by state), please reach out and see if your state offers it! Not every state does but i know over 30 states do it

It hurts so much, I’m so tired of this. I can’t fucking exist like this any longer, do you even know how exhausted I am? Every day I wake up and my body and mind betray me, why was I born to be in pain? I’ve stopped performing pain out of convenience and now people accuse me of faking it, god I wish I was. I wish I was healthy, I’d do fucking anything to be healthy, I’m so tired
It's bad again, the constant agonizing pressure building between my ribs that makes my lungs feel like they're going to explode with every inhale is back. I cannot take a full breath without wondering if this is the one that finally pushes too far and snaps something out of place. Memories of the last time it was this bad flood my head, the vivid image of my frail and broken body curled up on the bathroom tiles letting out shallow sobs and begging for some omnipotent force to just fucking kill me already appears in my mind. I’m not sure how much more of this I can take, how many more times I can repeat this process, I am not strong enough.
