Well if we're talking about motivation behind action, then what you believe is irrelevant. So from outside, one sees the delusions of the religious as a sickness to be cured; and I suppose going on with that analogy, some would rather amputate than..
But then by them doing that, you're bringing belief into it. One person believes that there is a God, and the other believes that the "delusions" of religion are a "sickness".
So why is one person's beliefs more important than another's? Because let me tell you, being on the receiving end of people who see it as a sickness? That's not so fun.
I've had anons on here [who I've just deleted because I'm not going to grace them with a response] who've tried to tell me that I shouldn't believe what I do because I'm wasting my time. Because there isn't a God. There isn't a reason to hope. There's nothing goof that comes with having faith.
Which I think is funny. And that is because whenever I mention on here how much fandom helped me mentally, I get overwhelming support and people agreeing. But then, if I mention that the only reason I got to the point where I found fandom, the only reason I stopped wanting to die was because I had God to help me through it? Then I get laughed at. Then I get abuse.
Why and how is it fair that those of us who are religious, and yet believe in equality, who are not homophobic or misogynistic, who support everyone in getting to where they want to be regardless of their background, their family, their religion (or lack thereof), their friends, their musical choices, whatever, are told to break down?
tl;dr One person's belief is not more important than anothers', and religion (when used properly and not to fuel hate) can save lives, so don't tell someone that their faith is useless.
