Her voice seems to shake Paul out of his pondering, and when he turns to her, Linda can tell he’s actually seeing her. She can’t say the same about this morning. “Yeah!” And then, realizing that neither of them believe him: “It’s John, you know. Just John. I’ll…” He looks away, his hand making it halfway to his face before he catches himself. Heather has started to mimic his nail-biting.

“We can turn around,” Linda says softly, though she privately thinks that’s not the right thing to do. The look on John’s face last night, when they came in…Paul was too busy making himself small to notice, but she saw it. Shock, but pleasure too. Hope.  “No one would know.”

“John would,” he says, and she doesn’t correct him. He’s probably right; she’s found that the two of them can generally sense these things about each other.

Linda is too good for Paul but don’t worry, he knows that. Also, the first hint at poly!

Paul blinks. He wasn’t aware John knew of who was playing in Wings, other than him and Linda. “McCulloch left,” Paul says, pretending like it’s nothing, like the dissolution of the lineup didn’t plant seeds of doubt in his mind that haven’t yet dissipated.

Local idiot popstar doesn’t realize that his ex still cares about him because he’s too busy grieving his ex. 

But he just smiles, strained but genuine at the same time. “It’s alright, Linda. Go on, have a seat. Enjoy the sun before you have to go back to England.”
