"Gypsy" is a racial slur, and romani culture isn't a cute ~boho indie gypsy aesthetic~ for white people to steal, profit from, or fetishize as some ~freedom wanderlust~ bullshit. Romani people are mistreated and oppressed every day of their lives for being Romani. Most of the people you see rocking their "gypsy fantasy" actually look away and change sidewalks when passing by a Romani. You don't "appreciate" our culture. You are in love with the twisted fantasy you want us to be. You wanna be Esmeralda, but you don't want all the trauma and emotional baggage that comes with it. Our culture is not and will never be yours to take and destroy. If you are not Romani, get a fucking life and stop appropriating a culture that's not yours.

In the case of Japan’s Burakumin, it seems to be clearly the latter.
