From Another Lover
A puzzleshipping drabble fic written by pearletudes
For a crowded afternoon at the museum, spectators don’t usually come and pry the secrecy that comes in the sight of art. To them, it was nothing more, but an array of fascination. A connection to the ancient world where one can be acquainted from the past, but Yugi was far from one of them. He came to visit an ancient portrait sculpture that drew him to an oddly familiar memory. Yet, it was hazy enough to question his intuition. He knew it was a common case of déjà vu– the type you would forget so easily because such a feeling would be a lie. But outside his reasoning, Yugi had this strange conviction in him. He knew he had to visit again because the portrait was calling for him. As mad as it sounds, he had to see the portrait again. The portrait was anything but ordinary, even in its origins. It was found at the Valley of the Kings from a tomb that had a nameless pharoah rested within, unscathed and glow-like once the sun touched its granular skin. The tombkeepers pronounced that it was a call from the king himself, ordering his presence to be known. Egyptologists, on the other hand, marveled at the discovery that it should be shown at musuems around the globe. For they have finally uncovered what seemed to be the youngest pharaoh who ever lived. Viewings were short and seasonal with the different museums it toured from. This year was no different as Domino City Museum became the host for its stay throughout the summer solstice. The portrait, coincidentally and impressively, became the cause of massive visits at the Domino City Museum. That even the security and museum staff had difficulties accommodating long lines of patiently waiting visitors. Not even Yugi could resist the chance of booking not once, but twice. He knew he had to see it up-close despite having seen the portrait from a distant corner. It was only a glimpse that he could have of the portrait, but Yugi could trace the details sharply. It was a sculpted picture of a young man not far from his age, whose face depicted the sharpness and regalty of his face. His hair was clustered in streaks but coifed, complimenting the royal headpiece on his forehead. His eyes evoked a provoking gaze, but it was humanlike and still. These features could only extend up to the jarring columns of his neck, all the way to the peek of his chest that had been adorned by gold and color. But only what Yugi can observe was the fullness of his tight, shut lips. It was discerning, but it had the impression of sadness. The portrait not only proved his power, but it captured the side most fail to see. He was only a young man. A young king unknown to all man. Yugi hypothesized that this must have been a living god from the past. It was not hard to tell, considering that the bust was a deliberate beauty. Perhaps this was how the pharaoh's artisans were way of proclaiming their gratitude. A fine work with no name. Yugi gave a run of his thoughts as he had now secured a place to have his viewing undisturbed. What made you so beautiful yet so lonely?
A thought rang with a whisper under his breath, as if a portrait could speak back to him.
How are you so divine, yet so human? And there it occurred before Yugi could utter another word: he looked around within the proximity of the exhibit, noticing how visitors had not yet arrived at the pharaoh's open exhibit. Yugi found himself reaching his hand outstretched, yet shaking. He feared what he was going to do might cost him a permanent ban from the museum's premises, or worse, a penalty fine with a 300-hour community service. He couldn't help himself graze his fingers against the cold marble, caressing the side of the pharaoh's face. Gradually, Yugi was pulling himself in, as if the portrait had stringed him to come closer. It was subliminal, and Yugi could affirm that this was no longer his reason doing this as he held his eyes shut. Tilting his head as he was an inch away from the portrait, Yugi dived his lips to the protruded detail he felt. A kiss for an unknown pharaoh from a young man he will never come to know. In Yugi's defense, what good way should it be to please a king?

Notes:
This is my first ever puzzleshipping fic. Yes, some may need some elaboration and expansion, but I am a sucker for a yearning Yugi.
He did, in fact, get a 300-hour community service at the museum instead, though!

I don't want to sound crazy but I need you to know that I require to be told nice things. To be reminded that I am enough. My scars may be healed but they are still scars at the end of the day, and so while it wasn't you who put them there I need reassurance you will not add more. I need to be told I am okay. That I'm enough. That I do matter. That perhaps you won't just leave one day with me confused and wondering what I did wrong.
don't be so shy
