The thought that Celeste could have ended up an iPad kid is just sending me, and not in the haha meme way. Canon Celeste is already terrible at self-regulation, and while she’s not spoiled like roleswap Theo and can tolerate being delayed or obstructed, when the obstruction gets too large, she locks herself into demanding and demanding in a big loop that often turns physical. If she had turned out an iPad kid, I shudder to think of what her rage loops would look like and how far they’d go.

Theo likes Thomas’ honesty in some twisted way. Thomas is seared to remorse, but the good side of that is that he doesn’t cry. Celeste can cut him off easily. Theo lets slip a tear and she tells him she participated in what he did as if he had given her any choice in the matter. He thinks of her remembering him fondly and it makes him sick to his stomach. It’s like he could have done anything to her and she would have loved and forgiven him anyway because at least he’s better than the alternative. He truly believes there is no meaningful difference. (Theodore, I love you, and also, you are losing the complexity point.)
