PETROVNA: named for russian empress elizabeth petrovna. this is where most of the girls are placed. they have their own hierarchy, similar to the vozvyshennyii, but this is unofficial and not written down anywhere. the 'high-bitches' get deference from the vozvyshennyii, but even they know their place. they're less likely to be hounded by the vozvyshennyii and get away with a lot more.

these groups form the upper years; upper first, upper second, upper third and upper fourth. these are the equivalents of fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.

literally "the elevated", the VOZVYSHENNYI enjoy a comfortable position on top of the school, though of course the demands placed on them are far higher. formed from ROMANOV, SUVAROV and KUTUZOV houses, the VOZVYSHENNYI share a communal common room far larger than the type at hogwarts, and it is encouraged for the VOZVYSHENNYI to consider themselves one group rather than three; each VOZVYSHENNYI has a room to himself and, being at the top of the castle, spectacular views of the surrounding taiga (also a reminder that even they cannot leave). able to command the rest of the school like servants, the VOZVYSHENNYI range from aloof to actively cruel; the best treatment you'll get from a VOZVYSHENNYI is none, unless you happen to be betrothed to them. the syllabus is subtly different for each of the three houses, reflecting the specialisation members of that house are being aimed towards within the cause for purity.

MAGICAL THEORY: hex adaptation, arithmancy, animative spellcoding. not kutuzov.

PHYSICAL ENDURANCE TRAINING: survival in wild, broom aptitude, AGOGE-like training, etc. not suvarov.

the OBYCHNYI form the underclass of the upper school. entirely consisting of PETROVNA house, the OBYCHNYI are the boys who failed, and the girls. they live and sleep with the MOLODOI on floor one, in galley-style dormitories far removed from the lofty heights of the VOZVYSHENNYI. they have no power over the younger years, and no respect from them either (though the girls are afforded a wary deference by most boys). the OBYCHNYI are mostly open for abuse by the VOZVYSHENNYI, with inferior seating arrangements, a less strenuous syllabus, and servitude towards the more senior elements of the school. of course, there will be relationships between VOZVYSHENNYI boys and OBYCHNYI girls, but the VOZVYSHENNYI are encouraged to think of these as on their terms, and rampant tales abound of the huge peer pressure on girls to sleep with VOZVYSHENNYI boys. after all, with such a large chunk of the school likely to be betrothed at some point, this is the best chance many VOZVYSHENNYI will get at sexual experience.

the OBYCHNYI boys are an even starker underclass; they never stop having to perform the errands of the VOZVYSHENNYI boys, and are generally regarded as inferior versions of manhood. for a girl to go out with an OBYCHNYI boy is a great disgrace, and she will generally be seen as dirtied or even slutty. "a girl who'll give it up for an OBYCHNYI will give it up for a donkey", or so the saying goes. the object of the OBYCHNYI syllabus is to produce a woman's repertoire of magic; as such, they have chosen to make the syllabus much like the effeminate subject pool of that erstwhile competitor hogwarts and beauxbâtons.

POTIONS: as hogwarts.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: general fitness & fighting/duelling, basic strategy.

GENERAL STUDIES: general magical self-study, much less access than the vozvyshennyi's advanced project.

the MOLODOI are the lowest group in the school by far, though they benefit slightly from their rigid separation from the rest of the school's syllabus. throughout the school, there is an unofficial but incredibly rampant system of FAGGING, where younger students are indentured to older students and must carry out errands or services for them; this system is overwhelmingly male, and girls are usually excluded from it completely, though there are frequent stories of upper first girls being thrown into an upper fourth boy's room with the instruction being; "have fun with her." these systems of servitude generally stop once a boy becomes VOZVYSHENNYI (not so if he is one of the unlucky boys assigned to PETROVNA house), and the unspoken agreement is that if you are running errands for an older boy, you have his protection. MOLODOI follow a more generalised syllabus which will be specialised depending on the house they eventually arrive into.
