let’s leave aside whether anyone in these couples looks “gently masc”, which. I mean, very much no, but not the point. 

let’s dig into this: 

the idea that patriarchy wants women as feminine as possible when the patriarchy actively hates women and anything feminine is a lie people keep perpetuating.

I hate to break it to you, but the patriarchy does indeed want women to be as feminine as possible, despite hating them. Femininity is the tax levied for being a woman at all. If you’re going to be here, the least you can do is make it so we want to fuck you. 

“Femininity” is denigrated in men because it is associated with women. It is soiled by its association with a perceived lesser sex. But if you’re a woman, it’s how you prove your value to the culture. It’s how the patriarchy deigns to see you as a person: on the axis of desirability. 

You say that the patriarchy wanting women as feminine as possible is a lie. So where are all these bastions of patriarchal capitalism encouraging women to stop wearing makeup? To invest in comfortable clothes? To be aggressive in their own defense or to advocate for themselves, not because It’s Time For Women, but because they deserve dignity and equality as people? Women who don’t comply with society’s expectations of femininity are sneered at or disregarded. Butches get spit on in the street.
