Keith could say what he wanted about Lance, he could say that he was full of himself, that he was always trying to show off but it would be a lie, and Lance had just saved his ass.
Keith was sent to infiltrate an enemy base along with Lance while the rest of the team took out the fighter ships that spotted them out. Keith rounded a corner and to his luck there were no soldiers in this hallway as well as the last, his guard was up, nothing is going to get past him, he kept his movements quick and silent, all he had to do was get to the main control room and gather some information, Lance wasn't following him, he was sent to the other half of the base to save the prisoners that the Galra had taken from a nearby planet.
As Keith got closer to the room the soldiers started appearing as well as the sentries, he had to be stealthy and try not to get caught. Suddenly another alarm started blaring and most of the soldiers ran in the direction of Lance. Keith was quick to move, taking out the remaining enemy and swiftly moving toward the controls. All he had to do bow was get the needed information, find Lance and get out of here. Unfortunately the information was downloading slowly. ‘C’mon hurry up’ he said to himself as he watched the screen as well as keeping a lookout for any soldier to return and if they did, he'd be ready.
Lance had just finished helping the hostages into an escape pod, he closed the door with a smile and sent them on their way back to the planet, now he needed to find Keith, so far everything was going smoothly, at least until Lance rounded a corner and was ambushed by a handful of soldiers and sentries. He quickly took out the sentries but the soldiers were proving to be a challenge, ‘dang it! They shouldn't be this hard to take out!’ He spoke to himself as he kept firing shots. Eventually he won, he quickly ran down the hallway, no longer caring whether or not any more enemies find him, he needed to find Keith and get out of there and if anything else got in his way he'd be ready for them. Lance got lucky and made it to the control room without anymore interruptions, he made it just in time for the information to finish downloading.
“Keith! You get what we needed?”
“Yeah, let's go!”
Keith and Lance ran down the halls towards where they had landed their lions, but as their luck wore out they were ambushed again, this time there were even more. Keith was quick the take out a few soldiers while Lance targeted the sentries. They managed to take them all out but more were quick to show up. Each one ending up being harder than the last, ‘this fight shouldn't be this hard’ they both thought as they took out the enemies.
As Keith was fighting with one soldier another one came charging toward him. “Lance!”
Lance got the hint and quickly shot at the soldier instantly taking him out. “Got your back Keith!”
Pretty soon they were in the clear and climbing into their lions. They joined the others and helped take out the remaining fighter ships.
“Pidge to your left!”
“Got it Hunk!” Pidge took out the ship with ease.
“Lance behind you!”
“Thanks Keith!” Lance quickly shot and took down the other ship.
“Keith! Watch out!” Shiro shouted as a fighter was coming in close to Keith's Lion, too close for Keith to interact causing the fighter to get a good shot on him, as well as another.
Keith was about to attack when a ray of light shot through the ship and it exploded.
“Got you covered” Lance shouted over the coms.
“Thanks Lance”
“No problem Keith.”
The last of the ships were taken out and everyone made it back to the castle mostly unharmed, Keith and Lance were sporting a few bruises but nothing serious. Allura congratulated the team on a job well done as she took the information chip from Keith and uploaded it to the ships servers.
Pidge and Hunk made their way to the center of the room followed by Shiro, Keith and Lance. Allura, with the help of Pidge figured out exactly where the Galra were going to strike next as well as a few of their base locations. The paladins plan now was to stop the next attack before it happens but they were allowed to take a break for the time being. Hunk and Pidge went to the Kitchen while Shiro stayed into the control room to talk over the plan some more with Allura. Lance heads towards his room but Keith stops him in the hallway.
“Hey.. Good job out there, you really saved me” Keith gives him a warm smile which causes Lance's cheeks to turn pink
“Heh, it was nothing, you were great too, you were really quick to take out those soldiers” Lance smiles
“Thanks” Keith leans up and kisses Lance’s reddening cheeks which just makes him turn even redder.
Keith laughs and smiles at him.
“D-don’t laugh at me!” Lance looks away from him but grabs Keith’s hand and drags him towards his room.
Lance removed his armor which just left him in his black bodysuit as well as Keith, they've had a habit now of just relaxing together after a mission. Lance layed down on his bed and pulled Keith down too, Keith layed his head on Lance’s shoulder and closed his eyes “I meant what I said, you were really great back there, sharpshooter”
“Yeah, so were you, Samurai”
