A/N: Just a kinda silly/serious best friend fic bc why not?

“I just don’t see what the big deal is!” Hikaru said, shutting the door behind him as the two of you entered your apartment. This argument had followed the two of you all the way from lunch, into the taxi and up the elevator, stopping and starting sporadically. You would think you were done talking about it only to bring it up again, thinking about it having made you upset all over again.

It was rare that you and your best friend fought. Honestly, you couldn’t remember the last time you had seriously gotten into it with him. Both of you were easy going and quick to forgive the other because you knew that you both liked to joke around with each other. But sometimes jokes went just a little too far. Like now.

“The big deal,” you replied, putting down your bag and going into the kitchen. Even though you were in the middle of fighting, you still made sure to grab Hikaru a drink from the fridge, tossing it to him. “The big deal is that I’ve told you how insecure I am about things like that and you still make jokes about. I know you don’t mean anything by it, it just doesn’t make sense for you as my best friend to keep doing it when I’ve said I don’t like it. That’s the big deal.”

You took a sip of your drink and went to sit on the couch, Hikaru joining you.

“If you know I don’t mean anything by it, it shouldn’t matter,” he replied. You scoffed.

“This would be like me making fun of your teeth and telling you ‘it shouldn’t matter’.”

Hikaru gasped, covering his mouth with one hand. “You said you loved my teeth!”

“That’s not the point!” You groaned. “I just need you to understand that I don’t always think your jokes are funny, that’s all.”

Hikaru sighed and took a sip of his drink. “Yeah, I get you…I’m sorry…”

You gave him a reassuring pat on the thigh. “It’s okay. You just gotta listen to me sometimes, okay?”

He nodded, holding his drink in his hand before quietly asking, “There’s nothing wrong with my teeth, right?”

You smiled a little and leaned into him, turning on the TV as you rested against his shoulder.
