Back in 2017, an International Miniature Bookbinding Competition was organised by the Hand Bookbinding Foundation together with the publisher De Buitenkant and Museum Meermanno. I have not posted the pictures of my entry because strangely, the pictures went missing in Louis’ photo archive and no matter how we searched, it just couldn’t be found.Â
Just last week, while Louis was compiling some photographs for his upcoming residency, he found my pictures. I was super relieved and happy that I did have photographs of this book documented.Â
This book measured 76 x 54 x 18mm. My book unfortunately was trapped in customs upon arrival into The Netherlands and did not make it in time for judging. However, it was listed in the Second Selection Round. This book is a permanent exhibit at Museum Meermanno in Haag.Â
The book was sewn on recessed cords. It has acrylic covers with acetate cut-outs of faces representing the individuals who lived on the island, interacting with each other. The boards are slightly translucent and you can see through both from the outside and the inside, where it also acts as the doublure. The transparency reflects on the fleeting moment of the existence of the community on that island. The endpapers are handprinted with the lower case ‘i’ for the island, and also an icon of a human. I made the box to match the binding, using primarily red and green as to match the prints in the book.
I am glad that this book can finally be shown. This is the 2nd miniature out of the 3 I have done so far. More to come, I hope.Â
So apparently it's May now (in my timezone at least)? ... Anyone wanna explain to me where the first four months of the year went :/?
Well, I'm gonna try my very hardest to post a fic chapter or two this month... And I know you all are probably sick of hearing me say that like every month but trust me OK, THIS MAY IS AN IMPORTANT MONTH TO ME AND I NEED TO POST THE NEXT XS CHAPTER AT LEAST X'D!!!
As most of you following me are probably aware, I have a fic on AO3 called Xtra Small or XS is it's shortened abbreviation. I started writing it when I was VERY new to the UTMV and to writing fics in general.
It's... been a while since I updated it... In fact, today marks two years since its last update... And that is a fact I'm not proud of ^^'...
(More info and explanation about why I've been taking so long to write the next chapter below, but to summarise the main point: I have not given up on XS and plan to have another chapter out soon)
Why haven't I updated it in so long? Well there's quite a few reasons really, but the main one that kept me struggling to continue writing for so long was the fact I just didn't feel proud of my writing in that fic anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still love XS and it will always be precious to me (especially kiddo Cross hehe :3), but I just couldn't help but compare myself to... Well everyone whose writing I came across, especially if they wrote babybone fics too. And when people commented on my earlier chapters in the fic I would cringe and wonder how they possibly got through them since I just kept thinking of all the 'better' fics out there.
So for a while I ignored XS and started writing other fics that I felt more proud of and that I think show how I've grown as an author, but I never planned on abandoning XS fully. Over these past 2 years I have gotten sooo many comments from people who have read the fic asking when an update is coming or just telling me that they really enjoyed the story and honestly, that's made me feel more confident in my writing. It really means a lot that despite all this time, people haven't given up that I'll continue the fic and I can't let them or myself down by just never getting around to update it. It made me slowly appreciate XS again for the fic it is. It's not perfect, but if it can bring enjoyment to a reader for even a little bit, then it makes me happy knowing 'Hey, I wrote that :3' hahs ^^
It almost took 2 years to write, but last week I finally finished writing the first draft of the next chapter of the story. It'll take time to edit, but I'm pleased to say that there will definitely be a chapter coming soon enough. Hopefully late April/beginning of May at the latest.
If you're still here two years on since I last updated, then I just want to say thanks for sticking around so long and I'm sorry for leaving you on a cliffhanger for so long. I love you guys and I really hope this next chapter will be worth it.
Thank for not giving up on me or XS!
And thanks to those who are here mainly for OSDiff for being patient too ^^!

y'know when I was a little kid I was terrified of vacuum cleaners thinking it might suck me and I might be trapped inside it forever which made me think "what if baby bones cross was also afraid of vacuum cleaners?" I can just imagine one day cross accidentally drops like chips or something all over the ground and when nightmare tries to clean it with a vacuum cleaner cross just immediately gets terrified
oh that would be funny
(also I've been meaning to ask, how old is adult cross and how old is the baby bones version of him in your Xtra small fanfic?)
Oh babybones Cross definitely was afraid of the first vacuum cleaner that Nightmare ever used in the hideout after he turned small, so Nightmare had to get a replacement that wouldn't freak Cross out so much.
And the replacement is a little guy who goes by the name of Henry Hoover :3:
Yes this is a real hoover/vacuum cleaner you can buy. Wait... are you telling me this thing didn't watch your every action from the school's janitors/friends closets when you were younger??? Interesting... because I swear this thing followed me everywhere as a child /j.
Anyway... Cross definitely preferred this new replacement vacuum cleaner, happily welcoming Henry to the family when he was introduced.
Here's a picture Killer tried to sneakily take of Nightmare using it, but Night knew right away what he was up to.
Yep, just your average Dad using a Henry Hoover to clean up his sons mess.... Nothing to see here folks...
As for your other question, adult Cross is probably around 20/21 before the potion while kid Cross... I'm going to say 7, but I honestly keep changing my mind.
I decided to celebrate the occasion this year by drawing my three favourite skeleton kids dressed up in their adorable costumes! From left to right we have a young XS Cross or Oreo as he's also called dressed up as a knight, Shadow or OSSD Dream is dressed up as a vampire and finally there's Sunshine or OSD Dream is dressed up as a dragon!
Oreo comes from my fic Xtra Small while both Shadow and Sunshine are @calcium-cat s boys from One Small Dream (and the AU version of that) .
Thanks again Cal for letting me know what both Shadow and Sunshine would dress up as for Halloween ;D! I always enjoy drawing these three together!
