Ok let’s do a story inventory here since these Judgement War comics aren’t the most interesting thing in the world and I’m starting fly through them hastily. While X-Factor is aboard the strange alien ship they stole from Apocalypse during Fall of the Mutants, the ship gets transported to another galaxy by a Celestial. The Celestial then teleports X-Factor to the surface of a nearby alien planet during the middle of a giant battle between the planet’s inhabitants. The team then gets separated during this battle, with Jean getting imprisoned by the freakish looking “Reject” faction, Archangel getting imprisoned by the humanoid looking “Chosen” faction, Beast joining forces with the Reject faction, Iceman joining forces with the Chosen faction after getting his memory wiped, and that bumblenuts Cyclops getting lost and taken in by a group of monks who are neutral to the planet wide conflict. Oh, and of course, everyone loses track of the fucking baby during the battle, and little Nathan Christopher ends up getting abducted by the princess of the Chosen. Everyone on this planet is a super powered mutant, with the separation in factions being derived from the physical appearance of each person. The perfect looking Chosen are the oppressors, as they want to wipe out anyone who they consider to be lesser beings. And as we can see here when Iceman lays out Rask, one of the high ranking generals of the Chosen, even people with dual physical appearances like Iceman are considered to be lesser beings than those who look totally human. Man, I hope that if there actually are alien planets out there, they aren’t all like us, subject to the same insecurities that cause us to commit genocide against those who we see as different from ourselves. This would be the most interesting aspect about studying alien civilizations, seeing just how awful we are in comparison to them. (X-Factor #45 – Oct 1989)
