X-Mas Gifts from Max and Xephyr
It wasn’t just one packet of seeds; there was a box, of about three feet cubed, filled to the brim with seed packets of different kinds of vegetables, grains, and fruits.
The cake is for the present. The seeds are for the future. Happy holidays.
Once the tartlets were finished, Xander considered the cake Xephyr had sent, stepping out of the dining room again and returning with a container large enough to hold most of the chocolate-covered strawberries that decorated the cake, a select few placed on the plate before he covered the remainder and deposited them safely in the back of his fridge.
They’d be sent to Levi’s quarters first thing in the morning.
He popped one of the berries into his mouth as he cut a small slice of the cake, and he considered the confections already on the plate before scooting them to one side and serving himself the cake.
He picked a bad time to actually look at the note from Xephyr, a bite of the cake getting caught in his throat as he realized what was in the box, not realizing at first glance that the corn seeds on top weren’t the only packet he’d been gifted.
By Light, the android was fairly certain he was going to cry as he picked through the packets, several of the images on the paper containers those of vegetation he’d neither seen nor tasted in decades.
Okay, scratch that. He was actually crying.
Especially once he realized that one of the larger pouches contained half a dozen peach pits.
