Inspired by W3C’s work on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the specification includes 93 guidelines with 232 success criteria, references, examples, and more. It represents nearly two years of work from about 50 volunteers across five different committees:

It is a new(ish) initiative from the W3C seeking to create a specification for web sustainability similar to what they did with web accessibility.
While it is early days it is at minimum, a primer for ethical and moral practices to include in web design/development. Longer term I could see progressive governments mandating some sort of adherance similar as WCAG is to accessibility.
