tw : mentions of a break up
a/n : first time writing a max fic and first time trying to be aesthetic (ashley helped) HOPE YOU ENJOYY
you’d been doing photography for as long as you could remember. it all started when you were little, watching people in the big city’s pause to take pictures, capturing the right angle so the light would reflect perfectly off the building. from that moment you knew that was what you wanted to do.
and then came the studying. going to university every single day, studying for four years and not giving up even when it was the only thing you ever wanted to do.
and then meeting the love of your life.
max verstappen. you met him just when he joined formula one, both of you being seventeen and young, stupid teenagers, except for the fact that he was driving a car at 200mph.
that was until you guys broke up, just as you finished your degree. he had just won his first world championship, and you had finally been getting jobs, great jobs, but it wasn’t enough.
now he was a four time world champion and you were off taking pictures for some of the biggest people of the world.
that’s where you were today.
you had got an anonymous call saying you had a photoshoot to do. no other information, just the date and place. you had brushed it off. money was money.
now you stood in an beautiful room, wooden walls and cameras propped up against the wall, many to your selection. in the corner sat a small mini kitchen, a bubbler next to it.
you had your camera wrapped around your neck, fingers pressing deeply into the edges. nerves.
when the door opposite of you clicked open, you let out a sigh of relief. “this way, max and isack. yes, she’s in here, max, you knew this!”
your heart dropped at the two names, and it dropped even more when your eyes fell onto the three people who now stood in front of you.
max was older now, obviously, but so much that you had barely processed it was him. he was taller, his blonde, yet brunette at the same time, hair was longer but neatly trimmed. he stood in his redbull suit, sponsors scattered all over the blue, watch on wrist and helmet in his hands.
you could feel the woman who was standing inbetween the two staring at you so you averted your gaze from max and to her. “hi, sorry, i wasn’t expecting to see you guys here,” you mumbled, sticking your hand out to shake hers.
she shook your hand, smiling, “yes, so sorry about the weird call,” she paused, pointing to max, “he insisted i make it short and simple.”
your eyes fell back to him who caught your eye before looking away.
“it’s okay, don’t worry,” you said, keeping your gaze on him for a second longer.
you looked over at isack, only knowing who he was from the little of formula one you still watched, “hi, how are you?” you asked, smiling, hands returning to your camera.
conversations were spread between you and isack, max not speaking, just staring at the wall that stood behind you. when it was time to take photos, you could of sworn he always avoided his gaze from the camera lens, making the job harder than it should have been.
“hey, max?” he looked up, eyes wide, hand falling to his lap.
you tapped the lens of the camera, giving him a slight smile. “camera is here.”
he nodded, shifting to look where you asked him to.
you took photos of both the drivers, individual and ones together. isack was good at making the room easier to breath in, his jokes cracking the tension between you and max.
when the photoshoot wrapped up, you felt a pang of sadness in your heart. it hurt you that you and max had been so awkward, but also glad that the two of you hadn’t talked.
so, you decided that you had had enough. you placed your camera onto a nearby chair, walking over to max. “hey,” you said quietly, attempting to grab his attention.
he spun around, the redbull cap, which had the number 3 on it, beaming proudly on his head, a plastic cup full of water in his hand.
“hi,” he breathed out. the two of you paused, staring at each other before he spoke up, “how are you? how have you… been?”
you smiled, eyes meeting his. “good. really good. you?”
he placed the cup down on the bench behind him. “yeah. i’m good too. look i just wanted to say-“
you cut him off, shaking your head. “don’t. i don’t want to talk about what happened and i don’t want apologies because we were both wrong.”
“max,” you raised an eyebrow, the familiar look you would always give him leaving a sharp pang in his heart.
“fine,” he sighed, wiping his face and looking back at you, “can i take you out for dinner, then? to make up for it.”
you froze, jaw slightly dropping. “what?”
he froze as well, standing up straighter. “you know what, never mind. forget i said it. i’m sorry.” he walked off but you caught his arm, smiling.
“i’d love to go out to dinner with you.”
max stared at you for a second before smiling. “really?”
“great, okay well i’ll-“ he stumbled on his words and you laughed, making him laugh as well. “i’ll call you?”
“great,” you released your grip on his arm, standing on your tiptoes to place a kiss to his cheek.
his cheeks turned pink as he walked backwards and over to isack. “bye,” he mumbled, turning around.
