I was staring at a word doc, writing nothing and becoming increasingly willowier and willowier, thinned and pliant, ready to be swept away in the liminal dark portal fantasy way of say Max in Where the Wild Things Are. Like, my passive aspiration was that my desk would become some great turtle and wander off with my laptop whose absence would be of little note or nuisance because I wasn’t writing anything anyway.
Meanwhile, the room would buckle under the weight of colossal vines and prehistoric ferns until the walls collapsed into the humid temptation of becoming a jungle. And there I’d be in the middle of it, my own self unchanged but the world around me entirely new. Then, I remembered that I forgot to take my meds this morning. Ten minutes later I was unwillowed and writing this, once again humbled by the jungle that is Monday.
