Like chalk is erased.

A fluid mind, easily

Moulded into well

Wishing like putty

Is now clouded

with judgement,

clothed in a muddy

cloak of insecurity.

A clear voice, always

Speaking words of

Encouragement,

Singing praises and

Declaring love from

Rooftops is now

Reduced to a

croak, haunted

By doubt, subdued by

Fear and the familiar,

Familiar lifelong anxiety-

Of never being heard,

Of never being seen,

Of existing in the

Periphery.

Or even worse, to have

Come so close to the

Actual thing and

Missing it by a long

Stretch.

Or even worse 'worse'

To have lowered all

Defences, to have

Erased all boundaries,

To have given people

Sanctuary, to have

Crossed tempests, to

Have to sit down and

Hold someone's gaze

In empathy, when all

Else fails, and to realise

The depth of the mess,

The mess you made and

Realise, you are

In Too Deep, to

Run, to hide, to

You treat me like Aphrodite

Venusian goddess rising

Pearled milky foam

Like clotted cream speckling my dark skin

We tumble 'cross the bedsheets

Hair pooling around me

Tasting each other

Briny saltwater and Earth

Mingling sweat and it-has-been-far-too-long kisses

And I shall never claim another lover

As I have claimed you

With as much reckless, unbridled

Abandoning as I have you

You treat me like Aphrodite

Shield me from rain

With your oversized coat

Smelling of clean leather and lingering petrichor

I need to sit down or discreetly anchored my feet to the ground, because my body can't handle it
