#writeblr recs

I’ve been desperately searching for books like this because I love scifi romance, I love my fellow gays, and I love aliens/monsters! All I can find are hetero romances with the tropes I want (which is great bc I read those too) but arghhhhhhhh. I wanna see bi girls fall in love with buff space elf queens! I wanna see gay space soldiers get stranded on planets and fall in love at first sight with the secret military experiment sexy alien hunter dude. There’s not enough gay scifi romance in general for my trope loving heart and I’m complaining about it!

*cries in gay niche interests*

@sleepyowlwrites has dirt in the doing online on wattpad (check it out in this post) and it's a ride. It's my favourite story ever. The character driven amazing emotional world, the hurt/comfort, the found family, the focus on thoughts and drives and pain and growth is exquisite. It's friendship explored with nuance and depth of stunning quality. When I read it I get jealous and inspired and comforted and its everything I would like to read and be able to write.

@ren-c-leyn Shackles of time is ongoing fantasy story with incredible dnd feels. Like imagine a vast fantastical world with guilds and magic and amazing details, like you are transported in this world, with beautiful found family and interesting arcs and amazing hooks set in. You got fighters and elves and epic nicknames and missions and ranks and so much going on! This isn't even my fave story of hers (cough Forgotten Gods) and it's fantastic.

@bloodlessheirbyjacques shares many of her Bloodless Heir book series snippets on her blog, check out the masterlist. It's epic fantasy, kingdoms and politics, enemies to lovers with tension to die for, beautiful tragic stories, includes a prequel, magic system, corruption magic, royal family machinations, prejudice and wars, outcast growing into her power and self-love. So complex and dynamic, touching and inspiring. The feels are strong with this one.

Just wanted to make a little shout out to stories that mean a lot to me. I'm so grateful they exist. Thank you so much for bringing them into existence and making me so invested.

i just finished rereading one of my favourite series from when i was younger: Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

and i’m gonna cry because i finished the series and i don’t WANT to be finished with the series, and now my brain is going into that mode where it doesn’t wanna do ANYTHING but read/watch/write anything related to or similar to my special interests, in which case this is Fablehaven

which brings me to my request

IF ANY OF YOU WRITEBLRS OUT THERE HAVE A WIP/FINISHED WORK THAT HAS FABLEHAVEN VIBES, PLS TELL ME AND ALSO CAN I READ IT (I’ll provide critique/reviews if that’s what you want in return!!)

for those of you who don’t know what Fablehaven is or what it’s about the basic summary of it is as follows:

two kids, a brother and a sister, go to stay with their grandparents for the summer while their parents go off on a vacation. while there they find out that magical creatures (fairies, trolls, golems, satyrs, the works) are all real, and their grandparents are the caretakers for a preserve where those creatures are protected.

shit hits the fan regarding some demons and an evil witch and basically the five book series chronicles the adventures of these two kids as they help save the magical preserve time and time again, and gain some pretty cool magical powers and mysteroius friends along the way! the brother gets eaten by a demon at one point. the sister falls in love wth a dragon, and then a unicorn later on. it’s a long story asolfkjalkgh

oh boy, I have a long list of writeblr recs, so I”ll just list some off the top of my head with the genre(s) they write:

@ardawyn - fantasy. Sophie’s writing and edits are amazing! Her main WIP is The Dawnbringer and I’m in love with it. She’s also very nice to interact with -- very friendly and supportive! Recently she’s gone back to working on The Bleeding of Stars, which is such a pleasure to witness develop.

my buddy Lukas @aslanwrites - fantasy, contemporary, poetry. makes cool edits and writes transcendent poetry. Their writing is always fun to read! They just completed the first draft of their WIP Blood Upon the Altar. also fun and cool to interact with -- we send each other animal crossing memes and scream about them.

@reeseweston - mostly contemporary fiction. recently published their debut novel From the Roof of my Mouth. very cool individual I’ve been following since my first few months on writeblr. Reese is fantastic - very supportive and inspirational.

@indecentpause has several published works already!- including but not limited to The Fairy Portal (this month’s [Mermay!] feature) and Since Feeling is First. They also have an ongoing WIP called Never the Twain Shall Meet, which is written in second person POV (very cool).

@stetcomma - political, journalistic, dystopian. Every time Stet posts an excerpt from any of their WIPs, a year gets added onto my life.

@etjwrites - YA SFF - has a published book (Tedenbaar) and another one (Thorunn) available for pre-order right now!

@livvywrites - fantasy - working on a big and awesome project called the Metanoia series. absolutely love her work -- worldbuilding, characters, everything!

@spencecreates - fantasy, horror - Spence my buddy is working on an ever-evolving project called Caelum Infernum -- it’s huge and fantastical and always growing, which is so fun to experience as a reader.

I have a lot that I really enjoy, but I’ll give you my absolute favorites right now!

Bias & Bionics from @toboldlywrite is a sci-fi retelling of Pride and Prejudice. This was one of the first WIPs I got into on writeblr and I’m a whore for space retellings. 

Terras Town from @semblanche is an urban fantasy that follows Jekyll as they find themselves in a new world and need to find the way out. Every character is super interesting, and every excerpt has left me just,, breathless.

Kitsune & Katana from @kiliyarandkoweir is an action/adventure supernatural historical romance that follows Kenta and Masaru as they try to save the world. Beautiful writing and characters that I just absolutely adore!!

Bright Eyes from @liarede is a YA action story that follows two teenagers fighting crime. There are super heroes and honestly that was enough to get me invested but the characters and the writing is just *chef kiss*

Soul Heist from @astorsa is a fantasy story that follows a boy named Micah who has an ability for cheating death, he ends up becoming to assistant to a witch named Cherry and they have to track down a fugitive who killed a deity’s godson. I was very intrigued from the moment I read the intro, and have been ever since!
