Happy Painful Death Tuesday, Everyone!
For context, the elven word JRR Tolkien originally conceived of for Tuesday is Qualmisan. This translates literally to the day of death agony
It comes from qualmë meaning death agony and sana, an archaic word for day. There are a surprising number of elven words for the horror and pain of death.
Apparently Tuesday was quite a morbid day for Tolkien or his elves because in addition to that, Tuesday was also called Fuinen, in honor of an abandoned name for Nienna meaning death goddess. Qualmë-Tári meaning mistress of death was another name for Nienna so perhaps a Tolkien simply meant for Tuesday to be associated with her.
I hope everyone else has a better Tuesday than the name suggests.
