An addition to my previous Art post, A Burrow Ghost! Sometimes known as corpse worms.
Burrow ghost vary in size, though they are in the general range snakes may have, from huge, long things to tiny noodles.
Burrow ghosts are spirits of the burrow; of the dens of creatures, of ant hills and soft soil, of worms and burial mounds. Kings of root and the smell of fresh earth after the rain.
I meant them to look both worm like and also root like, as well as having the wrinkled human like face. In general though, most spirits are unique, with a variety of odd faces and bulbous forms.
All spirits, i think of less like nature spirits, and more like, human spirits, or more specifically, like creatures of human perception.
A burrow ghost exist in the places of the world where humans deal with the earth, where they bury their dead and have to worry about animals digging under crops and messing the fields. If the people didn't have a certain myths, culture and a relationship with the soil, then there would not be a burrow ghost.
And as being of perception, I try to then add the senses as a big part of their designs. so my previous creatures, the spooks, have a huge middle eye, and the burrow ghost have big human noses, and small shut eyes (they are also related to the sense of touch, being long things covered in loose skin). This is because, touch and smell are the senses i relate to the idea of tunnels, animal dens and soft earth. and tunnels are obviously dark, hence the closed eyes, like a blind mole.
Like the previous post said, burrow ghost usually just dig underground alone, occasionally getting close to animals whose tunnels they find beautiful or interesting. they are at times known for getting inside corpses and shifting them around, like grotesque human worms, to dig under the earth.
Most spirits are somewhat intangible, so a burrow ghost would easily disappear into loose dirt and dust clouds.
