Broken Promises

eyes long and sad
disguised as shimmers of hope
mesmerizing tales tumble
from upturned lips
promises latch onto
an eager heart
squeezing and squeezing
shattering its stone case
trust
oozing from the fragile seams
sometimes weeds look like flowers
to me
i wish and wish
compelled to seek
change
until i mistake
a soiled lake
for a well
safe to drink
